Disclaimer: there is zero substantiated evidence that MKbs ever saw widespread action before they were officially adopted by the military and mass produced in 1943.
(no, the wikipedia sentence saying “by one account…” doesn’t count as a evidence and paradropping your latest tech to surrounded troops, potentially giving the tech to the enemy, is the worst idea ever)
“Military tests of MKb-42(H) were ordered in April 1943” - forgottenweapons.com
That’s way after both Moscow and even Stalingrad.
Having just one experimental/testing/prototype weapon per army in Moscow feels okay-ish. Personally I would still not include it but if it’s just one, it’s tolerable.
But launching a Moscow match and hearing the cha-cha-cha-cha of the Mkb 42(H) and Mkb 42(H) sniper on rinse and repeat by a player who reached level 38 is just ridiculous.
What’s the point of having separate campaigns if the goal is to unlock Mkb/Stg in every campaign and only use that.
Pepperidge farm remembers good old Moscow when Mosin vs Vz. 24 and PPD-34/38 (box) vs MP-38 acually made it stand out from all the other WW2 games on the market.
I think assault rifles have no place in a campaign like Moscow. Moscow is one of the best campaigns BECAUSE it has limited access to more modern semi auto weapons, adding MKBs just turns it into another CoD clone
They arent just bad for historical accuracy/immersion
Gameplay is ruined too by these guns. Same for AVS and Federov
It becomes really sweaty, wiping squads in seconds, and not really what you would call “fun”
Moscow early on stood out because it wasnt just SMG/AR/SF spam. BAs were the most used weapon, with action being way slower, and you having to actually use your brain to achieve the objective.
Even PPD and MPs were kinda balanced, with MPs having very good range and ammo capacity. But that was quickly fucked by the insane dispersion we have now.
They could be gold orders AT BEST. Same with Federov
Id be so much cooler if they did something unique for the campaign. Maybe add some simple captured early level weapons at the end for germany for some balance, but add restrictions so you cant have 3 assaulter squads who have 4x PPD34/38s in them. Limit like 2 per squad or something.
My point is, it was mostly historical, and therefore it was more fun, more interesting than currently.
Now they just turned it into Berlin/stalingrad with different maps
The update that truly fucked moscow was when ZH/AVS and MKB was added.
Every tryhard runs those playstyles which is just sad
Well. I can live with the Fed and the AVS (and SMG drum supremacy) as long as the Germans have the edge elsewhere (in old glorious Moscow days it was the MG34). I mean AVS and Fed need to be included somewhere (but not in Berlin).
Rn Germans have “better” planes only and thats up to taste and depends if you EVEN like flying at all.
I do agree that the automatics were a mistake.
Well at least the MKB.
I would have been happier had they done thr KP31 and PPSH as max for each side and be done with it.
Moscow was one of my favorites to play. Probably 20k rifle kills in that camapign alone, until the need for progressive power creep caused issues.
No one will remember but I took a stand along with the forums when whey wanted the MKB in Stalingrad for every trooper. It was unnecessary.
Its probably why I am enjoying the Pacific right now. There are Autos and SMGs but they take second stage to my BA use. It reminds me of old Moscow and Beginning of Stalingrad.
I kill 3 people with a BA to every 1 with an SMG. And that is perfect.
I really wish they would learn and not turn every camapign into an auto fest.
To charge screaming your lungs out, with a simple rifle… and whipping your less experienced, smg wielding enemies with it. It’s priceless, I love Pacific, nowhere else is BA play as fun.
the game is not based on having assigned roles, so you have to suffer these things
that’s why I would have preferred a 32vs32 or 64vs 64 like red orchestra 2 but I’ll settle for what’s there
also in moscow I will not use the mkb42, and in stalingrad I only have 2 in total
Well. It makes sense in Moscow. The AVS saw limited usage in early Barborossa phase as the Soviets deployed evrything they could along with the Fed, the Madsen and the Premium Jap rifle.
I just dont see the logic behind its role as trooper gun and that it is available in Stalingrad and especially in Berlin.
But if necessary nobody except a bunch of SU tryhards will miss it.
Sure Moscow back in early OBT days is much more simpler with the best thing I have was a PPD-40 and Berlin was the only campaign I could enjoy the PPSh and T-34.
The tank spam in Moscow is annoying because the only way to deal with them besides explosive packs is AT rifles so I was actually supportive of the T-34’s addition but still I prefer the tank lineup for Berlin because of tank selection.
Old Moscow campaign wasn’t exactly a paradise because of first spawn CAS, non stop arty spam and bots being useless sure the Soviets in Moscow now have almost all the exact same guns as Berlin but what’s different between the campaigns are the vehicles. Moscow is still as noob friendly as before despite its chaotic at times but not as chaotic as Berlin. Honestly the Mkb should’ve been in Stalingrad as that’s already beyond the coverage of the Battle of Moscow. Atleast T-34 obr 1941 actually fought in the Battle of Moscow.
Sure my main squads use PPSh but I’m not against the bolt action buff as that actually made them more fun to use and me remembering the days of Red Orchestra 2 with bolt actions being deadly.
Yeah, I have to admit that bolt-action rifle majority has a charm of it’s own.
With the widespread inclusion of these guns, we’re probably better off describing the experience as a historical plausibility, rather than historical realism.
It’s not surprising that SMGs, automatic weapons and at least semi-auto rifles are more popular in general, as they tend to be more lenient towards mistakes.
BAs offer 1, but deadly, chance. While they still remain as a viable option, the modern assault rifles tend to muddy them somewhat.
I unlocked Fedorov a few days ago, and my game experience went downhill. Previously each kind of weapon had its role. This days, I don’t see a point running anything else other than 3 Fedorov squads. You no longer need semi-autos, you can go prone and use it as a machine gun successfully. And even worse, in Moscow it’s a straight upgrade over Ppsh rather than a sidegrade, due to how frequent those medium range encounters are. And 25 rounds is still enough to get like 5 kills per mag, so it’s more than viable for room clearing.
As for Mkb 42(W), it’s a straight upgrade over the H version, which defies the whole gold order/premium logic. Pdm-42 and Suomi are good, but they aren’t better than endgame weapons. What’s the point grinding German side all the way up to 38 now?
