Something that has been lacking is the parachute, both in airplane pilots to try to escape alive and continue fighting, as in missions or special squads that instead of spawning on the ground, they parachute jump, for example, in the Operation Husky in Sicily.
If I remember correctly devs confirmed some time ago that parachute for pilots will finally come, but it is not a priority.
As for paratrooper units - There is no place for them in Enlisted right now. Maybe if we got the whole big maps as a playable area. But right now it would be not only pointless, but also absurd. Paratroopers do not jump on the active battlefield. Their job is to land behind enemy lines and cause distraction there.
To elaborate on this, it was pretty standard for paratroopers during this period to drop with only a side arm and some grenades on hand, and for the majority of the kit to be in separate pods that had their own parachutes. This meant that it could take hours after touchdown for a paratrooper unit to actually be ready to fight. Dropping soldiers with all of the kit they needed to fight effectively raises concerns over things like excess wieght or bulk making the landing unsafe. Not to mention the enormous hazard of dropping slowly with a parachute straight onto enemy infantry.
Interestingly, the much maligned FG42 was actually developed for the purpose of having a high firepower weapon that German paratroopers could bring down with them on a jump, a role it did fill during the war, but on a very limited scale.
