I’ve talked elsewhere about how weak AT mines are in the game currently, and how placing just 1 mine per individual soldiers does little to actually stop enemy tanks. People generally agree with this, but they float different ideas: allow AT-gunners to equip multiple AT mines; let engineers (or at least engineers in AT squads) build minefields with several mines, etc.
My suggestion would be: add a new type of equipment, “minelaying kit”, for the same slot as backpacks and grenade and ammo pouches. This would be equippable for any class (in theory, any soldier can lay mines) and would allow the soldier to carry 3 AT mines.
This would do a lot to make AT mines more useful in the game and a viable tactic to employ. With 3+ mines you will be able to effectively close off a bridge or road and make it unusable by enemy tanks (assuming your soldiers can get there to deploy the mines first without getting shot by the enemy).
It would add more flavor and historical realism to the game (mines were one of the main means employed to deter tanks in WW2, something which is not represented in-game right now), plus adding new possibilities of gameplay. The player would still have to purchase the 3 AT mines besides the minelaying kit (that’s a lot of silver), so it wouldn’t be something overpowered.
PS: the same thing shouldn’t be done to AP mines. Trust me, you don’t want the map filled with 20+ booby traps. And AP mines already work fine as they currently are.

I too have often suggested mine pouches, but usually get met with a lot of resistance.
The most balanced way of implementing it that we have discussed so far (in my opinion) is by doing 2 things:
-
Modify the existing “grenade pouch” and changing it to an “explosives pouch”. This would allow you to take either more mines, more grenades, or a combination of the two in the case of the large version.
-
Add a flak jacket option that goes into the “backpack” slot. This item will act passively and give you some resistance to fragmentation damage, ultimately protecting against some AP mine damage as well as the fragmentation damage from any other source of explosive.
It is important that this would be an option in the BACKPACK SLOT for balancing purposes.

I don’t agreed at all. Everytime I’m dedicated and decided to use a squad with AT-mines (I have those 5-9 men squad with only AT-mines), I usually get 1-2 kills per game. Ofc it’s down to map knowledge and a lot of experience. But it works wonders for me.
My record is 9 kills.

I got 9 man mine squads too. Supremely powerful.
Often a mine or two is the difference between losing a cap, or reseting an enemy players push.

AT mines are already quite strong if you know where to put them, so i don’t think spammming more of them will really change anything. AP mine spam is already an issue, so a overall explosive/mine pouch would just makes everything more toxic
It’s just too annoying and takes way too much time to switch between all your individual soldiers in order to lay multiple mines.
That is true, but its even more annoying being on the receiving end

yeah bad enough being killed by snipers, even worse being killed by an explosive you can’t see, we need some kind of mine detectors,

well technically you can see it. But so used to charging in you often see it too late
I disagree and find this over complicating a very simple and easy system
Is it really hard just to give your entire squad a mine
