Mine sweeper perk

A simple perk: if soldier isn’t sprinting, he automatically spots mines.
Harsher version: if soldier is crouching, he automatically spots mines.

So mine will either kill the enemy or will make him move slowly. Either way, mine achieves it’s main purpose - delays the enemy, but is less frustrating for the person with a perk.

Available to every soldier, not only engineers like may ppl suggested in the past (both due to balance and realism).

i mean…

i guess its cool you can spot that.

but i doubt the averange teammates will care… or ai soldiers.

would be cool if you could defuse them when you are prouched and have a metaldetector or something. as well as having wire cutters to destroy barbwire faster as a tool.

but then youd be playing a different game.

It’s not my, it’s their problem if they step on the spotted mine.

welll… yeah but why would you waste a perk on it when you could just… go through a window i guess.

nowdays, people only mine the entrances of objectives.

outside few psyco that lays mines in the middle of a field… and i still fell for it.

So don’t take a perk? Nobody forces you.

Why not. Multiple levels could increase a bit the maximum distance at which the marker is displayed.

AS LONG AS the perk doesn’t automatically reveal mines that are not supposedly visible from the player’s perspective (behind walls/doors, behind a corner, etc).

This way, cleverly placed mines are still a threat.

no.

what i’m getting at is,

if you really would like to resolve mines while being both realistic, and i guess sort of cool,

a mine detector for engineers would be cool.

it will slow down the soldier, but he can disarm them, or even reuse them to his advantage.
at the cost of needing a medkit since it would theretically go in the equipment slots. ( and therefore you will need at least a backpack )

but… then again, that would be probably too much work so… dunno

Great idea.

Well…
1 - it would be harder to code
2 - you still can’t destroy a mine behind a wall so you either sacrifice one soldier or find a different path - mine still is an issue

You don’t need a metal detector. It makes mine sweeping easier, faster, less dangerous, but it’s not necessary.

So imo such perk is good enough for the purpose of the game.

Why don’t let the soldiers automatically spot mine and sign it on the mini map if him is directly looking at them, and the mine is 5 meter or less from him?

Is both realistically and easy to code

Yeah, but I want to make it a perk. Otherwise mines may get nerfed too much as a result.
If it’s a perk, you need to make a trade off and not take something else that may be benefitial.

Eh, as you pointed out yourself earlier, the pace of the game is probably too fast for that.

Playing minesweeper would eventually be not rewarding in terms of XP, nor either efficient in terms of taking cap zones. (Assuming your specialist even makes it to where he’s needed alive.)

In both cases, you’d be better off just losing a man on the mine and go on with the rest of the squad through the cleared passage.

If we are going for a perception increase perk, I can see this working as long as it doesnt allow me to see mines through walls and such. Maybe a harder outline, but not like the grenade alert.

the idea was to put such function within the mine sweaper away, so that you could see those mines and get rid of them without casualties.

perhaps relay such info to allies too if placed on a radioman?

some ideas.

Bad idea, this will make AP mine useless :-1:

Detection of mines should be restricted just to engineers :wrench:

No it won’t. Mines will still be usefull for redirecting and slowing down the enemy.
Yes, you won’t get the kills and points but mines won’t be useless.
A bit like the barbed wire.

No. Engineers already have a lot of utility and untill the APCs were introduced, they were a must have class.
If you really want to limit this perk, chose a class that lacks utility (like a rifleman).

this is the biggest bullshit about mines, mine should go off if you step on it, not if you’re in certain range, having to bear with such cheeky placed mines is infuriating sometimes. You can literally do nothing about it. If mines would work in such a way that you’d need to step on them, maybe defusing mechanics could be introduced, sometimes even if you spotted a mine around the tight corner it’s not possible to disarm it without getting killed.

I wanted this for a while. Could cost 1 green or yellow point, like the “put out fire” perk. As they’re very situational.

Since laying mines is too fast and has no proper planting animation, no need to crouch, it should be just as fast to spot them.

If this stop the crybabys i’m all in, and i dont even play with mines…

Bad idea :-1:

There is a barbed wire for that.
