Merge, but different

The merge is obviously necessary - but IMO there is a way to actually protect the historical (ish) consistency (ish) that campaigns offered.
Just have a bunch “whole lineup presets” for each era, with appropriate maps, squads, weapons and vehicles.
For example:
US - 3 whole-lineup-presets queueing at the same time (old Normandy, old Tunisia, old Pacific)
USSR - 3 whole-lineup-presets queueing at the same time (old Moscow, old Berlin, old Stalingrad)
Germany 5 whole-lineup-presets (old Moscow, old Normandy, old Berlin, old Tunisia, old Stalingrad)
Japan currenly only one concurrent preset (but why not let them queue with low tier stuff only too?)
This should basically achieve the same effects as the current merge - the matchmaker will not let you just PvE anymore, but we keep the somewhat reasonable consistency going. I guess one downside would be for existing players to re-setup so many presets (maybe they could be mostly copied over from existing ones?) New players would gain access to new preset slots as they level up organically, so it wouldn’t be a big deal for them i think. Obviously each nation should share it’s inventory, since only one preset can be active at a time
Although IMO, the best way would be to just have only Allies and Axis as matchmaking options, with 6 “Tiers” or “Eras” (whole-lineup-presets), roughly mapped to the old campaigns, but keeping the new tech tree since it’s pretty sweet
Personally I really don’t want to fight Japanese flying Italian fighters in Moscow…
Additional bonus: with the Tier system you could even restrict the stuff available in each set (T-34/long P4, ZH-29/AVT-40/MkB without actually removing content, since it would still be in the same research tree, just in the next tier/era up, keeping that early war weapon vibe)
For the complainers you could even give an option to disable (or at least mark it as LOW PRIORITY) one least favourite era (or give bonus XP per every enabled era lineup, so that most people are incentivised to help the matchmaker)

pacific will be separated from “que”

Dont really need to make simple matchmake overly complicated.
As well as I think there was some sort of soft-rule according the histori accuraci.

There’s a chance that the soft-rule may not be implemented or scrapped due to complexity like the Stalingrad engineer squads
