Mechwarrior Online Map voting system

I think this game could benifit from a pre game voting mechanism to select map/gamemode similar to what is used in mwo. Each player gets one vote, plus one additional vote for each time they played on a map they didn’t choose in their current streak. Some 3-4 maps are shown as options each time, and you can’t see which map is winning until you’ve commited your vote.

This lets people have meaningful influence over the map they play on, while ensuring that fans of less popular maps do get to play their perfered map/gamemode on occasion, and I think it strikes a good balance between letting people choose and ensuring diversity.

Yeah I mentioned that a while back, MWO has a really good map and mode voting system.
It could help a lot of us here when we get our battle boosters.

I think it could also help some with the frequency of disconnects. A lot of the people here seem to go “Well it was Dday so I left”, which makes it hard for the people who do want to play on those maps enjoy them, but if they become somewhat less common and putting up with the map now means more control later, I think it could help make both sides happier and make people more inclined to stick around.

I agree, there were some maps on MWO that I wanted to avoid in the mech I am in, and others that favored it. Having this system in place would help a lot with that.

problem is at some point it would likely be only maps that favor auto spam for long amounts of time

The way it works is if you don’t get the map you want or mode, you gain more votes. So eventually someone else will win out and get what they want.
Its a little difficult to describe without showing , but it actually works fairly TBH.

NO NO NO NO NO

the map voting in MWO ruined the game.
I love MWO but it was one the worst things they ever did.

Do you mind if I ask why it ruined the game? I played with it a lot, and was quite fond of the system.

Remember War Thunder where the playerbase themselves destroyed the map rotation where many chose small maps even in MBTs which is a horrendous experience for those who want the larger ones where MBTs are meant to fight at.

Getting the same old maps over and over again because majority of the playerbase perferred is going to hurt the game’s variety real bad to the point that you won’t see the maps the community banned even for the stupidest reason ever.

That’s what the vote accural part of it is for. No matter how unpopular your favorite map is, you always get to play it at least occasionally, because your vote keeps getting stronger and stronger until you win. Believe me when I say that my taste in maps and game modes was far from popular in MWO where the idea comes from, and yet I still advocate for the system. My favorite game mode was conquest, and my favorite map was viridian bog, neither of which were widely appreciated.

So yes, it may shift toward the more popular maps to an extent, but part of the hope is that by letting the people who prefer those maps play them a bit more, they won’t ditch the less popular ones as often, so you get more healthy games on the whole.

I actually jumped out of a game for the first time ever today, I was playing normandy allies and got Dday 4 times in a row so I toughed it out even though the first two were against a team of computer players clearly using comms which is a massive advantage. but by game 4 I had enough and after getting Dday the 4th time in a row, I cancelled out and got the new map, one I had never even seen before, it is the urban map set in the ruins at the start and it was actually really fun not knowing the map at all. In my Russian campaign there is a map I have still never seen, same with Tunisia and honestly the map fatigue is why I havent even been completing my battle pass missions, I find myself playing 2-3 games and then quitting and playing something else. they need a way to choose maps.

but there needs to be some sort of system and the votes being based on how many games you played without the map you voted for seems legit
