The Marine Corps’s division-level reconnaissance was first conceived in 1941 by Lieutenant Colonel William J. Whaling. He needed a group of specialized scouts and skilled marksmen to form a “Scout and Sniper Company” . Two of the newly established Marine divisions, 1st and 2nd Marine Division contained their own scout company. Larger infantry regiments called for more recon, scouts and sniper assets. By 1945, the divisions had instituted and organized their own scout-sniper, light armored reconnaissance (LAR), and division reconnaissance assets.
The United States Marine Corps Scout and Sniper companies and the Scouts (Tank) companies of the tank battalions were the first among the division’s reconnaissance assets.[1] They existed around the same exact moment when 1st and 2nd Marine Division were created. In 1941, each regiment had a scout and sniper platoon. They were assigned to the regimental Headquarters and Service Company. These companies were used in variety of tasks and, on occasion in severe combat, were used as “spare” rifle companies. When 6th Marine Division deactivated after the end of World War II, its recon assets also deactivated. Only the current Marine Division Recon Battalions that exist today hold history reference to the Scout and Sniper Companies.
Many of their scouts and snipers companies were reinforced with tanks for speed and added firepower. These later developed into the Division recon companies (later battalions) that are presently operating in the Marine Regiments today; also forging the Marine Corps modern Scout Sniper teams that are existence.[1] Later in the 1980s, the Light Armored Reconnaissance (LAR) battalions were born from reinforced light tank concept of World War II, remolding the mission plans for division recon. Although this has taken away their expedient armored reconnaissance roles, it was preserved and improved by the LAR battalions.
I would love to see a event br1-2 krag rifles in the game the krag was the us first sniper rifle. largely obsolete by ww2 the gun would be great at br 1-2, irt would be nice to see the gun in game.
Yes, the Krag-Jorgensen rifle was used in World War I by the U.S. Army Reserve and National Guard, and for training:
- Reserve units: The Krag-Jorgensen was used in reserve units until the Army had enough 1903 Springfields.
- Training: The Krag-Jorgensen was used for training during World War I when there was a shortage of rifles for the front lines.
- Rear-echelon troops: The Krag-Jorgensen was used by rear-echelon U.S. troops in France.
The Krag-Jorgensen was the first bolt-action service rifle used by the United States. It was chambered in .30 caliber and used a rotary magazine that held five cartridges. The Krag-Jorgensen was phased out of service with the regular Army in 1907, but remained in use with the National Guard and Army Reserve for many years.
The Krag-Jorgensen’s locking mechanism was a weakness, and the Mauser’s more locking lugs and ability to withstand higher pressures made it a better choice for the higher-pressure rifle rounds that became standard in the 20th century. The M1903 Springfield, which replaced the Krag-Jorgensen, was essentially a copy of the Mauser design.
Everyone has a gun they want to see in the game, i know one poster that loves a certain 1903. the gun is in game as a sniper but they want a rifleman version of the gun. well i love the Springfield Model 1892–99 it is an old but great gun.
