The Soviets tried using dogs with AT mines strapped to them. They trained them to run underneath tanks in order to blow them up. The problem was that the dogs would run under any tank it could see, and usually the Soviet tanks more often than not, so the scheme was scrapped.
I was reading about that a while ago. I think they got used to how soviet tanks smelled instead of German tanks ( because they trained them on their own tanks )so when the dogs were sent out they would end up coming back to the soviet tanks and end up blowing up there
I really wonder why this wasn’t more popular, sure its cruel - but if a defending force had zero tanks on their own, this would pretty much be some sort of low tech kamikaze drone.
