Making Shotguns Viable

I pondered multiple ways to make them a proper part of the game, here is the best option:

  • currently they play like worse semi-auto rifles, overall inferior to Bolties, SemiAutos and even weak SMGs
  • rebalancing them by damage wont mathematically work out, a new mechanic is needed

—> let shotguns down enemies on hitting a target

  • that means: no matter how much enough-to-survive health is left after a shot, the target gets downed and can heal normally (standing up again with 100% health is easily possible, so no health gets lost)
  • this new shotgun specific effect makes the shotgun special, fun to use and finally a reasonable option over the 3 alternatives
  • since most games only balance by boring factors like damage/reload speed, this gives enlisted a creative & immersive advantage over other games, especially for shot gun lovers
  • the best part: its easy & fast to code, as it just reuses already existing mechanics

I like the overall idea of some disabling effect but…

This means I’ll be able to shoot a whole squad X meters away and cause them all to use their medkits. I trade my one shot for several enemy medkits (effectively 2nd lives). Imo that’s too powerful.

Option 1:
Add a limit that X pellets (5 for example) need to hit to inflict the effect. Or you need to do some minimum damage (like 2). Imo logical.
Option2:
Instead of making ppl go down, shotguns inflict more flinch than other guns. Imo a bit more fair than loosing such an important asset as medkit. But maybe I’m too cautious.

This would be a good way to take prisoners and not have to kill everyone at least and this will make this suggestion viable Surrendering and taking prisoners - Suggestions - Enlisted

Extremely toxic and annoying.
And if soldier is without medkit, it would be insta kill. Meaning, another weapon for seal clubbers. Since majority of steam newbies is not going to have medkit on all soldiers.

I don’t see how this is could be a good mechanic. I don’t like it at all.

I was thinking of giving them a longer range of death, like in Rising Storm and Rising Storm 2, but this could be nice.

at least let me fire the gun without reloading the entire mag, that’s like the whole point of a shotgun…

I was thinking, that shotguns would only need to do 10 damage to kill and would not down enemies at all. Basically fatal shotgun wounds being too nasty for medkits to heal.

Bro I don’t want this to be a mil-sim game. If I want prisoners, I would go play another game.

It’s not milsim, it is just more complex gameplay. Adding this feature does not make Enlisted any closer to Arma and Squad.

Would be fun if my shotgun can send people flying or push back when they get hit, so Double barrels doesn’t feels like crap to use
