that’s a first for me hearing that you can earn points for squads that you do not use during event.
and, i never used SG squads for events.
but, could be that too. dunno how i got those points in the first place despite not having touched sg nor normandy squads for a year since i grinded the allies up until now.
i only found out when i was reorganizing my squad pre merge that i got some of these points for free.
it was for those premade squads events from year or two ago. their xp gain was connected to their counterparts in campaigns (before they fixed the bug).

During one of the even fight events, the squads used were normal progression squads so you got XP on them
As for where you got your HMG point, it’s either because you already had all points already unlocked, since there was 2 or more leftovers from veteran upgrades or from the events
