If you haven’t seen it the new Rocket Artillery event squad comes with an Engineer that can equip any weapon, this has been confirmed to be a bug. I however believe the event engineer should at minimum be allowed to have an automatic as an Assault Engineer. While you can switch the weapons on this squad you are still stuck with 4 Radiomen and 1 Engineer, meaning the squad is still more restrictive than normal radio squads and you are stuck with rifles. They will be much less useful before BR5 when they have automatic rifles. Frankly I believe this squad already has several downsides and the rockets are fun but are still situational like normal artillery.
Just reviewing the Japanese event squad itself I’ve played several hours with it and find it worse than a normal radio squad overall. As I’ve said before the normal radio squad has much more variety for squad members as you can have engineer, Sniper, MG, AT Gunner or assaulter so the members themselves can be flexible. For the call-in you are still competing with other players radioing in artillery, and even the bombardment which prevents you from using yours. The rocket artillery itself is good against vehicles however in many instances when the circle is placed on the point the actual rockets pick at place at the edge of the circle and every hit lands in that general area. So the rockets are precise but rarely impact where you want and can miss the intended target.
The purpose of this post is to provide feedback and ask that the event squad’s Engineer be allowed to have automatics to round the squad out a bit. Please upvote if you agree. If you disagree please post a counter-argument if you have one. Either way I hope to see people’s feedback on the new Rocket Artillery squad!
