the “preferred map selection system” is a failure - NOT because it screws with historical accuracy (which it does but thats not my point) but because it actually offers overall LESS “selection” of maps.
playing low BR would exclude high BR maps, while playing high BR would exclude low BR maps - excluding entire campaigns is obviously more selection than having the ability to “down vote” or “up vote” a couple of maps and game modes. Now that Berlin is open to low BR, I am losing my reason to play low BR to begin with.
What should have happened obviously is following the correct timelines of battles and set BRs accordingly → FOR MORE DIVERS GAMEPLAY
also making Stalingrad and Rzhev maps set to 1945 was such a lazy way to fix the gap between 1942 and 1945, obviously the real solution should have been to add more maps.
Same thing with US vs Axis, Tunisia was mostly 1942, while Normandy and Belgium 1944 and 1945.
Invasion of Italy and many 1943 eastern front areas as BR3 map settings should have been added.
Instead… what we got is a system that makes battle ratings entirely pointless.
I actually care less about the gun I am using, but the whole package of gear and maps is what makes we switch BRs constantly.
What we have is a good system, well outside of people hating the Tunisia campaign of course - but the solution to that issue is obviously to fix the maps themselves, especially that “uncle Owen and aunt Beru Star wars map”.
IF maps had the correct BR placement, we would actually have a lot of map selection - the stricter the better + if you would couple such a very strict BR setting together with a potential ±0BR match maker you would end up with:
BR1= Moscow, Tunisia
BR2= Stalingrad, Rzhev, Moscow, Tunisia
BR3= Stalingrad, Rzhev, new 1943 maps, Normandy
BR4= new 1943 maps, Normandy
BR5= Berlin, Belgium
now of course the alternative to this ( which I thought was going to be introduced ) is a proper map selection system where entire game modes and maps could be banned/selected, but instead we got a joke of a system.
