Daily thread about terribad AI after a match of commanding the squad bots to go to an objective only to find them standing around some 30 metres away from it. Not to mention the times when I command them to a specific spot but they just endlessly run around in the general location and right out into the open facing enemy fire instead. The worst AI I have ever seen - how the AI can continually be this bad in a game which seems to rely on them as part of its design could be considered the 8th wonder of the world.
The question is, are there squads that are full ai? Because it seems like it
I just want them immediately following my every step, and keep sprinting with me instead of engaging the enemy and getting cut down.
that wouldn’t be very realistic. They are soldiers, not clones.
In one of the old update dev. plans, they mentioned 3 different Squad behavior mode, that they want to release…far future plan or something…
Besides improving the overall battle performance, shooting, and threat response of your AI squad, we are also improving the command system itself.
So in the future you will be able to set the rules of engagement for your squad:
- Aggressive — Taking out enemy soldiers is the highest priority. When enemies enter the line of sight of your squad, your soldiers will immediately open fire.
- Defensive — In battle, your soldiers will try to take cover first and then return fire. This is how they are currently set to behave, and this pattern of behaviour will be standard.
- Passive — Your soldiers will only engage if they are fired at first. This will be very helpful for those of you that prefer quiet flanking manoeuvres - your soldiers won’t give you away early.
For the long term, we’ll implement the ability to give individual commands to soldiers - for example, to place them at specific points around a defensive position.
This! Where is this beauty now? nowhere…I think they should add this in the near next updates. Also they should add this:
Ignore — Your soldiers will not engange enemy, even if the enemy shoot at them, or not. They not returning fire, just following you orders and stay quiet.
Would be awsome with these modes. And +1: Would be better, if the AI, are just not stroll too much slowly while shooting, only just shot 1-2 and run. A few of them cover the runners and runners stop to cover the another half os squad visa versa.
they do not ignore your orders if you tell them to occupy the area, you are giving them the command: advance and attack, then they advance towards the target attacking whoever they see that’s why they are always 30-40 meters behind
I would LOVE to see this because at the current time I feel the need to keep non-pushing squads like snipers and engineer squads (at least they weren’t a pushing squad til I got the M2) to low numbers to avoid instant detection as 6-9 retards slow-walk through a field while firing at targets that were totally oblivious to their existence.
I would also love to see a feature that will make them STOP MOVING when you tell them to. Like all of them. I was trying to hide my squad in the attic once on an objective and an acquaintance on the other team told me after the match was over that it was obvious AF because i had 8 guys that kept moving making little dirt dust fall from the ceiling even though I was not moving, non of them were shooting, I was not shooting, and all were prone but they just would NOT stop moving.
Hold Position would be very useful.
The problem I’m seeing is that your ai squad shoots at anything they see. Like they are on aggressive stance. I have given them orders numerous times to follow me around a flank only to have them lagging behind because they are shooting at the enemy.
LOL the AI try to take cover before engaging now?
I think they totally no have idea what AI is doin in real action…lot of question I have concern these modes: Where are these behavior types? Why is that take so long to release it? etc.
AI Defend now: Defend point—>crouch—>shoot enemy (engange enemy from miles away, sure…nice tactic…) and die…GG devs.
Okay I see the confusion here. I was high as fuck when I typed that but should’ve elaborated. I just don’t want my AI soldiers lagging 35 feet behind me, they should prioritize catching up with me.
And it is absolutely unrealistic when your squad commander command you to stay put at a certain location or follow him close and you just decide that you want to wander around doing some gunning instead.
That’s weird because when my squad leader would tell me to stay put, I’d go look for a good piece of cover or a good angle of fire on the enemy while staying in the general location.
Yeah and the AIs dont do just that, they go outside, trying to engage at 100+m or wander around and die like retards.
considering the average training for vlksturm and russian conscripts id say that’s appropriate.,
It’s not just Berlin, it’s the entire game, whether it’s the conscripts or the elite troops on the eastern front, the AI is just simply wild.
It definitely needs work, I’d just caution about making them too robotic.
Making them robotic like what AI in games used to be would be a complete improvement over what we have now they are that bad.
