I feel like the AI are in need of a major improvement by now and the reason I’m saying this is because your squad mates in Enlisted are supposed to be the biggest selling point of this game and what makes it different than every other World War II shooter out there on the market. However the soldiers in Enlisted feel lifeless and still, as well as them not being useful outside of getting a few kills before dying off randomly.
There are plenty of ways to improve this but some I have though if is-
•When Ordering your squad to attack an armored target, if a AT soldier is available it should use its gun to try and take it out(not a infantry guy with a explosive pack)
•AI medics can heal troops on their own and place medic boxes
•Order engineers to build fortifications from the order wheel
•Soldiers use medkits when low on health automatically
•Add a Defend Command where AI squad mates build,entrench,place medic boxes, and defend the place from key spots in the checkpoint
•Add a Attack command where they throw grenades and charge while letting out battlecries and stick in formations together
Please feel free and comment any ideas or questions but I feel like this could really help the gameplay
While I do agree that the AI needs more options to make them more effective, keep in mind that there is a fine line to be aware of. They are already brutal at short and mid range. So going down your list, here are my opinions:
AI should NOT be capable of using AT weapons. It would quickly make tanks completely useless. I think keeping it to where explosive packs are used is as far as that should go.
AI medics healing their troops COULD be useful, but there should definitely be an option to toggle that on and off, as their heals ARE limited. 3 options available: Do not heal nearby allies, only heal squadmates, heal any nearby ally. This way they can help heal nearby allies as well if you chose. As far as medic boxes, I think the player should have to place them. HOWEVER, AI passing near a medic box should automatically resupply from the box. (This same idea goes for using ammo boxes.)
Engineers already will finish constructing what you place if you order them too. Finesse is important when building structures. Spamming them would result in many being broken down by teammates or being in unusable locations.
AI using medkits on low health, Again, this should be an option, but they already try to revive themselves with them. Perhaps if they are equipped with more than one, but otherwise no.
A defense command already exists. I do not think a “play smart on this objective” button is a good idea.
An attack command kind of already exists. If you order them to a position, and enable “aggressive” behavior, they will attack what they can. AI using grenades is a very thin line. Formations are great in theory, but there is usually terrain to contend with.
As far as my additions to the list I would like to see:
As i noted before, AI should auto use med and ammo boxes.
A “dig with me” option should be available if they have shovels equipped. This will make them dig on either side of you to help widen trenches as you go.
Better usage of cover, rather than standing in the open.
Mortarmen AI should have 2 additional options. If you are using a mortar, and an additional AI has one too, you can order them to fire in roughly the same area as you.
The other option is you can order all available mortars in your squad to fire at a spot that you mark, firing one shot each per “trigger” pull. Quite useful especially if you are using the binoculars.
Lastly, my personal favorite: a “mine this area” function. Any equipped with mines will take a few steps outward and place their mines. This allows for rapid deployment of minefields, which currently are very time consuming to set up.
