I come to you with another proposal, this time it’s about overheating animations of machine guns in heavy and light machine gun emplacements and emplacements such as, for example, on DDay in Normandy.
Animation could include:
Warming up the muzzle,
A small mist could evaporate above the barrel and the air around the barrel would be hot and vibrate in a characteristic way, which would also prevent the weapon from being aimed due to the distortion of the front sight caused by looking through the heated air.
This does not apply to water-cooled machine guns such as: Maxim, Vicers, CKM wz.30.
However, you can use the heating of the muzzle and add a sound like water gurgling, which is to symbolize the boiling of water from the temperature of the barrel.
When overheated, this sound can be very intense and will become quieter as the barrel cools down.
I know I messed up but oh well.
What do you think?
They had this in Red Orchestra. In that game, the cooldown was dramatically slower than in Enlisted, so eventually you would need to change the barrel to keep using the weapon; it would increasingly smoke and glow as it reached its limit. The changing animation took about 8 seconds. If you let the weapon overheat without changing the barrel in time, it would become unusable for a couple minutes. I think this game could benefit from something similar.
I think there are a few other weapons in the game that allow a barrel change, such as the Bren.
I think just an overheating mechanic is the wrong direction and should be either replaced or supplemented by a reload mechanic. Stationary MG42 would be nerfed by them just having 50 round belts but buildable MGs would be buffed by them having longer belts.
I agree, while I don’t use the MG42s on the Normandy map I know if they added a cooldown mechanic it wouldn’t give my teammates the incentive to take up the gun because they wouldn’t want to deal with the cool down, and in turn, the enemy team could just bum rush the objectives if no one uses the MG42s.
