Machine gun nest spotting

So i recently figured out how commanders in tanks can use binoculars to see far distances meanwhile the other soldiers can shoot. I had an idea to implement this for the buildable machine gun nests/heavy machine guns. Basically, the way this works is that you press f to use the machine gun, then call over for one of your soldiers that has binoculars equipped, and when he comes you will switch to that soldier and the other one you can control with the mouse to shoot. Similar to the commander and the gunners inside.

Now, i know this is potentially a bad idea because it could be overpowered, but i still think it’s an interesting thought. What do you think?

But of course it’s not a bad idea.

Every gunner is guided by a spotter. In most situations. Because machine guns, due to their high rate of fire, could not be used against targets of opportunity due to the rapid consumption of ammunition.

Machine guns are generally used against groups of soldiers at medium distances. The only way to identify the enemy is through binoculars.

That’s just not true.

While MG’s do have a role in indirect fire at longer ranges (hence the sights on the ones in your pictures), it is trivial to use simple telescopic sights or even iron sights to engage targets of opportunity while the gun is on a tripod - it was my job in the army on FN MAG’s!

That doesn’t change the fact that binoculars were used to find enemies for the gunner.

But yes, you can fire target of opportunity. It was never the general way of using it.

I think it is possible by modify the existing game mechanics.
By making MG nest a 2 man structure like AT gun, with the similar mechanics like bike where driver(spotter) can also fire when the gunner is alive.

Of course - but you made it sound like cause and effect.

Binoculars are useful for many circumstances - which is why you can give htem to all you soldiers (and airmen?)
