This is for discussing about the most powerful weapon in the game atm, the MG nest, how to balance it the best way.
My suggestion:
The MG should be reloaded, like irl, maybe 100 round belts. You can do this yourself, or have a bot do it for you, like irl you have a MG team, one shoots the other reloads.
The overheating could be a better feature too, allowing continuous fire if your barrel isnt too hot, have 2 barrels, again just like irl and you or your bot changes the barrels when it over heats, or you can wait for it to cool down but this would take longer.
Currently the gun gets broken from 1 rifle hit, which i guess is realistic but it isnt fun. Make the gun more resistant, like 3 rifle hits, and when broken you could fix it, this would take as much time as building a new MG nest.
I agree with reloading feature and need for two soldiers to use MG nest. It would be really cool and more balanced.
Overheating is fine right now, in my opinion. If favours short bursts instead of long series. If you overheat the MG you must wait longer to use it again.
You can just destroy previous sandbags and build new nest. But I think that destroying MG should take 2 hits instead of one.
MG nests and sandbags ingenreal i feel need to be able to take more damage, as of right now they pretty much are useless. whats the point of fotirifiyng a point, if all it takes is a shot or two to nullfify your fortification. enemy players in that situation should perfer to use gernades rather then wasting ammo.
I actually dislike the MG nest, in a lot of my experience playing (especially in invasion) my teammates deploy the MG nest and camp for the whole game, barely contributing to the match in any meaningful way
and as of right now the nest is way overpowered, unlimited ammo and only a cool down timer, why add an MG nest when there’s already LMG’s in game
Why not make them a special unit?
HMG team, the mechanics could stay the same but the squad leader carries the HMG and a pistol while the rest are ammo carriers/loaders.
The leader sets up the MG which takes time (about the same as engineers currently) to set it up and to remove again. If they don’t remove the gun the squad basically abandons it.
The mechanics should include limited ammo and no cover for the HMG on the tripod/wheeled laffette for Russians unless you place it on a engineer created position.
heavy machine gun sqad: user aim and fire the gun and other soldiers carry ammunition and help me reload. They can equip with standard semi-auto rifle or handgun.
They should of course be faction specific and they don’t need to be identical. I think they can perfectly get away with with doing a Maxim and MG34.
The MG34 has a significantly higher fire rate than the maxim. But you can have 50 or 75 round drum mags or 100-200 round belts. Maxims pretty much only came with 250 rounds belts.
