M8 Scott is pretty much unplayable

Im tired of trying to play it, it is virtually unplayable. Sure, the M2 howitzer is great at donking 4 or 5 guys on a cap point, but lets just lay it out

-open topped lets it get OHKO’d by german cannon planes
-abysmal turret rotation makes it impossible to use as a support vehicle without being as far away as possible
-the HEAT has less pen than the 37mm, and is extremely unpredictable. I’ve OHKO’d a panzer iv only to have my next 4-5 shots not pen the flat side of a puma.
-The commander is exposed, with no way to shield himself, making him a free kill. The loader also instantly swaps into his seat, making this a 2 crew vehicle 99% of the time
-The overpressure codes from WT were very very VERY clearly copied onto this vehicle, because it can literally destroy itself with its own HE, and you can lose the entire turret at once from a stray M24 grenade on the ground.
-Let alone the fact that det packs, 7.5cm HE and 50kg bombs can do the same thing from MUCH further away
-no coaxial, leaving the gunner unable to save those measly HEAT shells for armor
-its on the M5 chassis, giving it very little armor and thus, survivability

Pros?
-the M2 is equally or more often less effective than any of its counterparts (the M3 cannons, the short barreled 7.5cm, the KwK42) whilst also having significantly less anti armor ability, so the “firepower” argument is void
-sure, it has speed. But it cant use this because of all the trenches that the light tank M5 can easily be stuck in, and the aforementioned extreme vulnerability to splash damage and unprotected turret means using it to flank and push is a death sentence
-.50 is nice, but it can only be operated by a commander, so see above why this is far from a pro over a coaxial MG-34 on a panzer

I want to like this vehicle, but its so darn bad. the HEAT definitely has some registry issues that remind me an awful lot of how HEAT used to perform in WT around the 2019 mark, and the overpressure codes as well as times when your gunner/loader will just randomly die with while the commander is fine, and the fact that this vehicle is FAR from a match to either the puma or the panzer III N makes it an absolute drag to play.

I’d be much happier seeing the M24 being added as a standard vehicle, or at the very least giving us something that can hold its own against the panzer iii N and panzer IV, i mean the M4A1 is a pretty soft target for the sherman line, the M10 would at least be much better against vehicles while still having a decent HE shell, and the M8A1 would be a great choice to solve the lack of AT abnility without shaking the tree too much provided they fix the splash damage issue, and theres always the option of reorganizing the tank trees entirely with a horizontal progression as well as a vertical, IE being able to choose the jumbo or the A3 76 instead of grinding 10 levels for a worse or functionally identical vehicle

Edit, I should note a large reason why this is such a heavy issue is the fact the germans have simply much better options. The puma is far from an equal to the M5, and the Pz. III N is a world apart from the M8. This could honestly be solved by shifting the germans to a lower level to meet the USA tree on equal terms, IE providing the stubby puma instead of the III N, and a panzer III L to match the M5.

Ill fully admit the jumbo is OP, but they also get a freaking Panther A and ive killed 3 of them with the M5 Stuart so far, and been deleted by many many more. Pot, meet kettle.

Yeah bur bc of that fucking jumbo every us tank has AP and they give an obsolete and crappy tank destroyer to the US for countering a better jumbo.

In this point of view I don’t see the jumbo as OP but as the only valid tank to use at the moment

You have the advantage that this tank is very fast, you can easily beat its side, of course if the panther notices your presence, a shot will destroy you

tell me you didnt read my post without telling me you didnt read my post

also, imagine being such a hardcore wehraboo you honest to god think an M8 stands a remote chance against a PANTHER

a lot of text seriously, and as it is more of the same.

The whole point of M8 is to be light, mobile, self propelled artillery, so of course it won’t have great penetration and armor. In my opinion the only problem with m8 is that we can’t hide our commander. Well, it could get better penetration on HEAT shells, but this tank is not designed to fight other tanks

if you arent going to take this seriously and contribute, then you are more than welcome to just not be on this thread

Okay, since I saw your text that it was more of the same, I just wanted to give you a quick advice, don’t be offended either.

its HEAT should have enough pen to go anything not either panther front or a very well angled pz4
it wouldnt be OP as you would still be at the mercy of the HEAT gods

Pros of the Scott:
-HEAT rounds can one shot Panthers
-HEAT doubles as HE so no need to switch shells
-.50 Cal can pen Pumas
-M5A1 chassis makes it super fast
-The MG has full rotation and makes the commander well protected if they know what they’re doing.

tell me youve never touched the scott without telling me youve never touched the scott

the HEAT is purely RNG, youre as likely to OHKO a panther as you are to bounce the flat side of a puma. As for your “pros”, i addressed all those points already, shouldnt comment without reading the full post first

“advice”

you literally just said the scott is a match for a panther
i bet you think the Tiger II H in WT should be facing shermans as well

nope, the chassis of the scott is the m3a1

I used the scott a lot to grind for the sherman and it was damn good fun

i wont deny that it IS a lot of fun IF you dont experience the utter BS that accompanies it the vast majority of the time. My first match i got 47 kills just with HE on the beaches, and other times i will spawn and lose three of my crew within 15 seconds because of an arty round, a 50kg bomb or a stray grenade, soemtimes i OHKO panzer IVs at 300m, other times i bounce 4+ shots and get deleted by pumas

Thats what needs to be fixed on it, its already undeniably inferior; now youre going to add a hefty layer of inconsistency and RNJesus to a vehicle that is unappealing right out the gate

So, as someone who has gotten wrecked by good Scott drivers a fair few times, and has also killed them with nothing but a knife on others, I’m gonna say its not bad, just fiddly. The open top makes it hella vulnerable, but its HE does a ton of damage, it has enough speed to get to good positions on the flanks and dodge grenades, and its effective at long range.

Good Scott players are a huge pain to deal with, but they also stay well away from enemy infantry. They just know where to lob shots to use the huge HE blast radius to clear rooms, and they do that. Repeatedly.

Bad Scott players drive next to the point, letting me hop on top of the turret with a knife, and then wonder why the gunner keeps dying until I get the last crew member and I get “Razor Feather Killed M8 Scott with Knife” and my small sliver of steel magically detonates the vehicle.

Ill have what youre smoking
The hull is definitely from a m5
You can tell from the upper glacis being one solid slope

might be drunk on soda, ok?
