I don’t think im alone when I say Normandy is my favorite Campaign. I feel as though it captures the WW2 vibe the best out of all the campaigns. However it sucks being outmatched by the higher end German tanks. Yes I am aware skill is a large part of it, but if both players skill is the equal the German tank will always come out on top unless you get lucky or until the 76 Sherman gets its stabilizer. My solution is to add the M26 Pershing to the Normandy campaign as a new vehicle for the 3rd armor division 32nd armored regiment(if you are wondering why 3rd armor division the famous M26 Pershing Eagle 7 was in this division and regiment). This will allow players to strategize on what vehicles they want to bring in. Do they want the Sherman 76 with the Stabilizer(once they add the Stabilizer), do they want the M26 Pershing with more armor and the far more impressive 90mm cannon, or the m4a3e2 with thicker armor with far less weak spots then the M26 but the weaker 75mm cannon.
So now you might be wondering alright that could work, but what would Germany get? I have two half baked ideas for this one, Germany could get the Jagdpanther G1. This you might think is a bad idea, the long 88 is VERY powerful and the front of the Vehicle can withstand even the 90mm from the M26 minus a few weak spots (lower plate and machine gun port). And to that you are correct, however the side armor is very weak, and the 88 only has 11 degrees of horizontal traverse because of its hull mounted gun, which I feel balances it well. The other idea is simple but probably less popular… Nothing, or more accurately something else that isn’t a tank (ex. plane, weapon). Personally I feel the Axis in Normandy not getting a new tank would not effect them at all and perhaps something else might be better. If anyone comes up with a different reward that would be more balanced and thought out for the Axis please post down below.
Hopefully I have convinced you that the M26 Pershing should be added to Normandy, and if I have convinced you hopefully your name is Gaijin.
With how ranges work in this game and dmg modelling, I don’t think the Jagdpanther can survive 90mm unless they only give it trash AP instead of APCBC. This ain’t War Thunder.
They should have put the M36 and never the useless M10 and M18. M36 has 90mm at least and was in combat 1944 so they can ez rig it up.
The stabilizers in US tanks during World War II weren’t really used, there are a variety of reasons for this on the list of which was most people didn’t know how to use them and most of their maintenance crews didn’t know how to maintain them, so they unplugged them
The Jadgpanther, was actually in Normandy , as was the King Tiger
Enlisted doesn’t really do realistic, pretty much every campaign has some thing in it that really wasn’t there in real life, but I think, putting the purshing in Normandy would be pushing reality a lot further than that really needs to be
If only a tank with a 90mm can pen the front that still sounds fine everyone else would have to flank or shoot for the machine gun port, plus the Jagdpanther was just an idea and im sure it would have its issues . And for the shells my experience the shells used in Enlisted are the more plentiful shell used in real life where in War Thunder they allow you to use more shells that were available but not common. Also allies don’t get an effective bruiser tank (meanwhile Germany gets the Tiger and Panther )and the M36 couldn’t be an effective bruiser tank which is why I recommend the M26.
True the Pershing didn’t see action until 1945 however as you said this wouldn’t be the first time Gaijin has put in a vehicle that showed up later in the war example the Sherman Jumbo was not in D-day it showed up some time later. Knowing Gaijins track record I don’t find it that far fetched to add the M26. And about the stabilizer Gaijin said the M4A1 76 is suppose to have a stabilizer in Enlisted in a post where its says Quote:“This “Sherman” got what it lacked - the excellent 76mm M1 cannon, along with a vertical stabilizer, which allows you to fire accurately at low speeds.” Unfortunately I tried to link the post but I guess you cant do that. But if you don’t believe me there are youtube videos about this. Also I did submit a bug report about it and they said the Quote: “This feature is in the works”.
Like I said, there is no historical precedent for its use, but as we both well know Enlisted she doesn’t do realistic, referring to the stabilizer
There were no 76 mm Sherman’s fighting in Normandy either, they did not show up till August as I recall
My wish all along was that they were a little bit more realistic about their choices for tanks and guns for the various campaigns, the big problem with their current approach is that it’s too inclusive, the problem is that all campaigns start to feel kind of alike.
The Pershing should be in a campaign for the Rhine/Ruhr in 45, Bridge at Remagen kind of thing
If you go throwing it into a Normandy campaign, any late war campaign that you would want to build suddenly doesn’t have anything new and interesting in it.
Same problem with the M 24 Chafee should not be in anything before the bulge
I am inclined to see M26 Pershing in this game, but I do not agree about adding it as it is to the current game. I like the asymmetry of the game.
I spend most of my time playing as the Allies in Normandy. The Allied tanks basically can’t compete with the Panther or Tiger. Instead, the Allies possess low-level to powerful air power.Just like in historical fact, the Sherman tanks are designed to have infantry support as their main mission, and when tanks of IV or higher appear, they are to be destroyed by CAS (close air support). I like this.
If the allied pilots don’t do CAS at all, the Allied soldiers will have to destroy the Tigers with TNT and packing bombs, just like in the movie Private Ryan. I understand that is a very painful thing to do, but the Tiger is the iconic German, so there should be that much of a threat.
Besides, if you’re playing the Allies until late in the game, you’ll have more equipment to destroy the Tigers: the M9 bazooka can shoot through Tiger flank armor, and the 76mm Sherman can destroy a Tiger if you’re lucky.
Germany’s hallmark is its dominance in tank warfare, but if the Allies place tanks that can easily compete with the Tiger, Germany will lose even its only advantage.
It cannot penetrate the front of a panther, at most, Combat ranges.
Only using the HVAP round could it manage this, but they were so rare that on average, there was only one round per tank per month, available with some units never getting any, and that was only during the latter part of the war.
No I mean in the game. I´ve been killed in a single hit by an M4A1 76 multiple times. Also with front I meant like the whole tank front, turret included.
Only early in the war, by 1944 most tank crew had been trained on how to use it, and they used it extensively.
Anyways, about the Pershing, the devs should honestly just pull a Pacific and put all of Western Europe (1944-1945), would save so many balancing and playerbase headaches and while there may be some immersion breaks, the fact that Germany has any aircraft other than the Fw 190 is already immersion breaking beyond any of the time travel stuff, so whats a bit more immersion breaking in the name of balance.
