M1928 USMC needs 30 round magazine or 50 round drum

20 Round Thompson magazines were only used by the NKVD in the 30‘s and Winter War, as well as the postal service.

Just before America ented WW2 they replaced all 20 round Thompson magazines with 30 round magazines, and drums saw small usage.

The 30 round box magazine was approved as the new standard in December 1941. The war began for the United States on December 7th, 1941. Considering that the M1 Garand was adopted by the Marines in February 1941, and yet most of the Marines landing on Guadalcanal in August 1942 still had 1903 Springfields, I think it is safe to say that the Marines in the Pacific most definitely utilized the Type XX 20 round box magazines in the early stages of the campaign.

Not to mention it was an obvious move towards balancing the Pacific campaign which launched with the US being very distinctly advantaged.

I cant find a single historical photo with the 20 round magazine after 1940
The only photos of 20 rounders are the soviets during during the Winter War and Moscow

You didn’t try very hard, literally the first result.

Marines always had a low budget, they usually got left over stuff, hand me downs etc.
