The M1917 and M1919 Browning were America’s two standard machine guns of WW2. These two machine guns were primarily used with a tripod to provide heavy fire support. However it was not uncommmon for soldiers to ad hoc lug these medium machine guns and hip fire them. In fact in the Pacific in particular soldiers were trained to hip fire these machine guns for close combat in dense jungle and tropical terrain.
