LMGs - the most unpolished weapon class (imo)

Players aren’t scared of anything because it is a game. You cannot fix that. You will only frustrate them if you put limits on what they can do artificially through suppression systems etc.

Only thing I am legit intimidated by are raid bosses in Destiny 2, as they tend to wipe entire teams of players if anyone slips up.

Ok, I get your point.
But I doubt devs will make MGs good enough to scare players away from engaging them head on. Players would cry too much.

Well, Max LMG per squad and make it to tear throught anything that is not stone brick or armor and user should not be able to jump or run!

It’s a bit too extreme. It’s still light machine gun we are talking about. 12kg is not that much, even if you include ammo.

Pretty much the main penalty for LMGs is their heavy weight slows your character down, making it harder to move through open terrain without getting shot. But they’re definitely still the strongest weapon in game

On the magazine front, to my knowledge the Bren had a 20, a 30 and a 100 round magazine while the BAR only had a 20 round and a 40 round magazine. To my knowledge the most common magazines for the bren were the 20 and 30 with the 100 reserved mostly for the anti air role, but I have a feeling it was aimed at infantry at least once or twice. As for the BAR the 20 was the only one use in world war 2 as the 40 round (meant for anti air as well) was discontinued in 1927. Also I have had great success with crowd control against MGs though I full agree a suppression effect for enemy fire in general needs to be added, especially for flamethrowers.

There is a reason bolt actions aren’t standard infantry rifles anymore…

Yet there is a reason why they exist in a WW2 game…

Many of these weapons shouldn’t even be possible to ADS without a bipod just from the lack of a foregrip. You’re not going to keep holding onto a red-hot barrel.

Because countries couldn’t produce smi autos like the M1 fast enough.

Well, I bet Breda is the worst LMG literate complete and utter trash if you cant mount. Slow firerate, small magazine, sways all over the place like its rowboat middle of storm and those atrocious sights!

Well, those guys can keep steady aim while being on fire. So I don’t think hot metal is something they care about.

LMG if it has bipod user should be grabbing from it not from barrel!

I use Breda 30 more like Semi-Auto rifle and it works well in that role.

Not total trash in kneel, not great but can get decent kills at 50 meters

I’ve just come across this topic, and I felt like I had to add my opinion to it, as this bothers the hell out of me too.

LMGs are very badly implemented in the game, there is no major penalty for shooting with the gun shouldered. The recoil/muzzle climb should be insane from these guns when fired from the shoulder in full auto. Also as mentioned most of those guns should not even be allowed to be fired from the shoulder, only from the hip or from the bipod.

The bipod deployment is another area that needs a major overhaul. First of all, make it easier to find a surface to deploy the bipod on, and make the character deploy the bipod in a way that gives you a decent fov. I would also like to see the bipod deployment be animated, and if the gun is moved while the biopd is opened, it should stay open.

As an upside of deploying the bipod, the guns should have almost no muzzle climb when shot from it. To balance this, overheating could be added.

As for the magazines, issuing 100 or 200 round magazines for an LMG in their standard role was really not a thing. At that point the guns become too heavy and bulky for troops to carry around effectively. I’m no expert on the topic, but as far as I can recall, the largest “magazines” were the 50 round belt carrier drums for the MG34/42, when used in the light machinegun role.

No they shouldn’t. LMGs have less recoil than rifles IRL. Its the same round being fired by a much heavier and larger gun. The myth that LMGs have more recoil than a rifle chambered in the same round is the most ridiculous thing I ever see people commonly call for.

This is already in game…

Exactly why none of the LMGs equippable have these magazines…

I’ve actually read it was often used in that way basically being a large heavy semi auto that needed to be deployed to use properly

As far as I know, larger belts were also used in LMG role, but only if it was a deffence or for suppresion in the atack.

In modern terms I think you would call that the LMG role as opposed to the AR role.
Which would also imply a heavier mount in most cases, so basically what the machine gun nest tries to emulate.
