LMGs being used as assault rifles need to be addressed

…before they become solidified as the meta mobile assault weapon (Practically superseding the SMG’s job) in the game for the years to come. There has to be some type of limiting factor for heavy automatic weapons such as weapon caliber heavily affecting its recoil, weapon weight, iron sight speed, and maybe in the future barrel overheating/barrel changing mechanics and deploy speed delays.

The LMGs should be kings of stationary suppressive fire, mostly from the prone position or deployed position; not this strangeness that is Rambo-esque hip firing and burst firing while standing. That means removing the cone of fire debuff they all have; like they’re all smoothbore muskets and increasing their effectiveness when deployed and completely stationary. LMGs in game should act as their real life counterparts, as area of denial stationary emplacements that can hold an area effectively but also have the problems of easily being flanked without support, barrel changes to combat weapon overheating, and most importantly being stationary.

In response to accuracy buffs they would have to have realistic recoil that would make them hardly usable beyond 10 meters without a surface for them to be braced on AND the stationary construction MG buildings have to have limited ammo.

The LMG should not be intruding on the SMG’s and even the Assault Rifle’s territory as a CQC highly mobile automatic weapon. This is proven multiple times in Berlin and Normandy with the ever mounting numbers of LMG players going full Rambo in urban and CQC environments making short work of even SMG players.

Voyo is right, people use MGs as ARs because their primary role doesn’t work properly.

When it comes to recoil and overheating that’s fine but I’ll only accept that if we increase the damage so we don’t spray our enemies to death and we actually make our shots count.

How is it so difficult for the devs to fix bipods like they should’ve copied Red Orchestra 2’s bipod mounting mechanics or some other military game? Besides they have introduced some unnecessary shit like the new tank repair mechanics.

That too, i never understood how an LMG like the BAR shooting a .30-06 did less damage than its bolt action counterpart using the same exact caliber and so on with the other factions LMGs. The main limiting factor that should affect how good an LMG is during a battle should be its positioning in the battlefield, recoil control, and heat control based on the players skill and understanding of his weapon.

Weapons should have the stopping power like they’re supposed to not arbitrarily change just for balance reasons.

Because with BAR you do not have to reload manually after each one shot.

True but the BAR also lacks the massive recoil it usually has in other games as it is shooting a bolt action rifle round at 650 rounds per minute. As I said before the physical recoil of the weapon is too forgiving in any unbraced/not deployed fashion and is allowing LMGs to be used like hip fire and in many cases ADS SMGs.

Not to pull “muh realism though” card but even hickock45 a literal giant of a man who’s also a weapons expert beyond all of our experience combined isn’t capable of holding down a BAR accurately at full auto standing up. LMGs should have this kind of recoil while crouched/standing unbraced, even more so strafing back and forth; minus the massive CoF the devs have in place now.

The only reason I can think of them adding it is because they’re trying to appeal to the masochist audience in the game.

sure just insert you’re hand into this blender, because it will be less painful if they make the change and the zerg rusher are lead back to you, ill be in the back cheering them on

I think you should only be allowed to hip fire MMGs like the mg42 (not LMG like bar and Bren) when you are standing. When you are crouched you can look down the sights and when you lay down you can look down the sights or if you are braced on something,( kind of like hell let loose or battlefield V)
And then since they were very rare instances where someone would stand up using a MMG they can be a perk to allow you to look down the sights when standing up

i think this is intentional. i tried every other weapon type with mounted state. mounting works even with bolt rifles without any bipod. these are not coincidental . they are purposefully keeping lmgs sh*t for two reason

  1. some newbie will cry about “muh lmgs too accurate and they can shoot me from 80 + meters”
(yeah, what were you excpeting moron ?)
  2. making game as much run n gun as possible
Until early 2022, lmgs were just another smg and everyone was complaining about how accurate and powerfull they were .
so they “fixed” them. It was a great “fix” that made lmgs borderline cancerous to use.
CoD with stupid bots is the endgoal it seems.

BAR is not an lmg. BAR first designed in 1918 to be automatic rifle like chauchat. automatic rifles are not lmgs, not even close. War doctrine for them is totally different than lmgs. lmgs are designed to be portable version of hmgs are used from distance. auto rifles are for close range fire support.

Whenever I play as Machine Gunners I usually find a nice spot to bipod and lay down suppressive fire.

Bipods aren’t perfect but I think they’re more or less fine. I’ve used them pretty effectively

because they can be way to common to be used that way, if you allow bot to use them that way, with two squads you can easily have three on the field at any time with four in reserve using only common squads, nine with a special squad, so if only the player can use a bipod it would suck to loose the LMG as an early assault rifle, but if bots can use bipods you will be tared and feathered

so yes if bipods are only for players
no if bipods are for the laser gunner bots
defense over open ground would become a firing range

The devs just hate the concept of a kill zone basically.

(Yes, I’m well aware it applies also to me. And I don’t care.)

You’re delusional accepting what we have right now is not a good thing if we’re trying to go to steam we need to be serious.

then you must love bots as well because they will grow like mushrooms

So… bots may get better?
