It might be useful to add armoured vehicles or half-tracks for infantry support and reconnaissance e.g. SdKfz 221, 223, 251, BA-64, T20 Komsomolec, M3 halftrack and M20. These would be more suited for infantry combat than heavier tanks, and would also look better because heavier tanks like the Panther are not well suited for street combat.
it would be fun, but with the short ranges and prevelance of tanks they would probably be mostly useless
maybe with less restrictive maps or less allowed tanks they could be viable
I would love to see these in game however perhaps with a game mode of a much larger scale. Good suggestion!
yes, i agree.
but on the other hand… maps are a bit small for that.
plus, would be more of a downside if we compare that you would hipotetically unlock much “tanky” tanks such as the panther before reaching to light vehicle…
at this point, i’m a bit skeptical about their introduce.
i just hope they will revamp campaign levels and accomodate them for earlier level uses and not make them just like cars where they spawn for one use only and never respawn. leading to people use it like a brick and abandone it in the middle of the battle.
I prefer that the half-tracks and other reconnaissance vehicles are located all over the map, ready to use, as well as the JEEPS, because if they are added as a vehicle squad, it will be relegated by the tank squads
If halftrack squad would be the choice their max crew should be at least 11 member or more
I think even in the current maps, more mobile, lighter vehicles can work just fine. That’s basically what the puma is, after all. Its armor is weak and its pen capabilities limited, but its still plenty resistant to small arms fire, able to dish out damage to infantry, and use its mobility to flank or stay safe.
Adding some more non tank mechanization options could help diversify things without continuing the march of higher tech and heavier vehicles the game currently has.
I can’t see the implementation of this working well.
The issue being that let’s say your squad gets out of the halftrack, it is no longer functioning as a light support vehicle, the controls for being in a vic or on foot do not support controlling both from their core design.
It would fill a similar role to the motorcycle squads, and they fill this role fine, they don’t need a large infantry squad attached to them for this purpose.
If you want a better street combat vic the better choice would be armored cars.
There’s a solution for it though: the wonders of sidegrades! Instead of always adding new lvls with even more overpowered things, they could tweak the campaign line a bit to obtain a campaign tree instead, with ramifications leading to sidegrades.
great addition that i wanted every time, but the current map can’t support it. In order to function it correctly, the maps need the reworks(too small).
They’d just be food for the infinitely spawning tanks unless there was a serious reevaluation on how games are played.
TBH I wish they started with APCs and light vehicles instead of immediately flooding the game with Tigers and T34-85s. Kind of unavoidable since the playerbase was frothing at the mouth for heavy late-war tanks.
This all circles back to the fact that the game’s progression is very linear and things get outmoded very quickly. The Panzer 2 in Moscow is permanently shelved as soon as you unlock something else. The 45mm rips you to shreds and you can barely fight other tanks.
Correct. Any tank would simply shred them. Now if it was reworked where we started with support vehicles and ended at medium tanks in the higher levels making them rare it would work alot better. We also wouldnt have this crazy power creep and need some fake tanks like whatever will be cooked up for Normandy
It would also make lighter AT weapons like AT rifles and bazookas fit much more
Nice stuff and all that…
Good luck using them on the majority of the maps though.
Yeah there’s way too many maps where you start taking fire soon as you leave spawn (sometimes when you are still in your spawn) which leaves no time for halftracks and stuff like that a concievable way to go hide in another part of the map. That and maps are just too small for manuevering.
Would also stop the ever increasing arms race of heavier and heavier tanks as we would have essentially solid historical match ups and they would be increasingly rare to encounter. Would also give a good reason to ditch det packs from everyone
I honestly thought they would give squads battle ratings like war thunder, that way STG44 wielding Germans would meet late war PPSH/SVT wielding soviets and so on.
As it is right now sometime’s I load into a match and I’ll take my jumbo out and only fight pumas, load into another match and it’s just panthers and my teammates only have stuarts
Detpacks should be reworked to not be amazingly effective as infantry. They’ve increased their price by switching them to silver but so many people already bought 90 billion of them. It’s once again a straight upgrade and not a sidegrade. :\
Yeah its pretty poor at times when you fight clearly new players with bolt actions and light tanks. Its why I still avoid Normandy and go to Berlin where tanks are much more equal and also less prominent in cities
I think they wanted to appeal to the war thunder crowd way too much to get them on board with tanks
yeah at the very least in Berlin all the tanks can kill eachother. Fortunately or unfortunately the Tiger was already confirmed for Normandy so the disparity between new players and veterans will get even larger.
I’ve suggested adding alternate ammunition to early campaign tanks to keep them relevant or allow them to strap an ammunition box on the back they can drop.
And some either fake tank or another shit TD for the allies…I’ll just keep avoiding it then
Not only that but could also stop the implentation of weird and unhistorical stuff.
