Okay, so let me make a bold statement:
SMGs are the core infantry fighting power up in BR1 up to BR4, BR5 is the exception because of full auto rifles.
IF one faction has the better SMGs, the faction is unfairly balanced - unless there is a worth alternative in core infantry weaponry.
MP40 vs PPS is âmore or lessâ balanced, because one SMG has the faster fire rate while the other has more damage - which means that there was special thought behind those weapons performance. Body armor makes PPS âeffectivelyâ deal the same damage as MP40 - now there is a performance imbalance - which however can be fixed by taking something else from Soviets.
Again, I never said that Body armor as a mechanic is bad, just the way it is implemented is terrible and is a direct buff to Soviets WITHOUT a price the faction has to pay.
To be fair, besides SMGs Germany absolutely has an advantage in gear that the Soviets lack - a BR2 semi auto, Soviets BR1 SMG is absolutely terrible, Germany objectively having better bolt action rifles - however these are overall minor things.
BR2 - BR4 SMGs are all vastly supperior to German SMGs, Kiraly at BR5 is arguably the only TT SMG that can compete with Soviet SMGs - however only thanks to its high damage which does not get changed by Soviet body armor, personally I think that PPSH is still the better gun because Kiraly really does have a noticeable kick to it, but since Kiraly reloads almost at an instant it can be shredd through hords of enemies. - that being said BR5 doesnât really count because of Assault rifles.
So I ask, is it nice that Germany has MG34 at BR3? Sure, but does it matter when PPSH box has an effective range of over 50 meters where it lasers enemies to shredds and outperforms rifles?
Is it nice that Germany had VG semi auto at BR3? Yes, but this is a poor mans STG in super slow semi auto, while SVT is a working rifle that actually fills the role of rifle but in the end they still are only filler weapons for non assaulters.
Body armor greatly influences the usefulness of alot of weapons - while at the same time not really influencing other weapons.
While STG44 does not change in its bullets to kill, FG42 does get changed, you what I mean with all of this? Its effects are random and create too many weird balance shifts - which in theory wouldnât be a problem IF said armor came with a negative.
