In the pool of possible random names and surnames for Italian soldiers, there are a lot which either have spelling errors, look weird, hor have no sense at all.
A few examples:
- “Ferari” is probably supposed to be “Ferrari”
- “Squarchalupi” is correctly spelled “Squarcialupi”
- “Finokkio” is correctly spelled “Finocchio” (let alone this one being potentially inappropriate)
- “Saltaformajo” should probably be either “Saltaformaio” or “Saltaformaggio”
- “Baltassare” should be “Baldassarre”
- “Arlanda” isn’t even a name. It should be “Arnaldo”, probably.
There are many more, probably a consequence of inaccurate translation(s) between Cyrillic and western characters.
I suggest to let some Italian native(s) revise the list of Italian names, so that they become more correct in game.

“Esposito” is actually a well known surname originated in Southern Italy, where it used to be one of those given to babies who were abandoned by unknown parents and raised by religious orphanages (and later sticking with following generations).
All the names in your pics make sense except for “Silvestri”, which in plural form is a surname and as a first name should be “Silvestro”; and “Dorieno Finokkio” should be “Doriano Finocchio”, except that would be quite an unlucky surname, since in Italian “Finocchio” means the vegetable, but it is also a very well known (yet mild) homophobic slur.
i don’t need an history lesson as i’m italian.
personally, some of those Surnames and names are a bit strange. but plausible.
Oh well, it could come handy for foreigners (and hopefully Devs) visiting this thread though.
Gaijin has a history of involuntary memes creation when releasing new Italian content.
In 2017, when War Thunder released Italian airplanes, in the presentation video an Italian pilot could be clearly heard yelling “CAZZAROLA!” at the radio, while being shot at. (The video was soon edited and the voice line disappeared afterwards.)
Years later, when releasing Italian tanks, one of the premium CBT bundles was a Semovente 105/55 proudly bearing the word “TERROMOTO” on his front. (Later corrected.)
I would like to complain that I got Lorenzo Medici when it should be Lorenzo de Medici
Yes I am going to paypig him up to level 5

the “articolo” in front of the surname/name was used to distinguish rich families or important person from commoners
lorenzo de’medici
lorenzo medici
two different surnames
I wonder if they have the same quality as Russian or American - they sound strange now, but they were quite common 80 years ago.
No bro the dub quality(voice acting) is low cost

Bro, nothing is dubbed in this game. Voice acting is entirely different thing and it is somewhat good - the level of silliness is consistent in all languages.

I dismiss your experience and reason and demand a funny hat for my soldier
Gotta admit tho, “Ingannamorte” (death-cheater?) is a sick surname.
Can’t wait to actually upgrade the guy with vitality, fast healing and higher chance to get downed instead of dying perks!
NO.
JUST FIX THE NAMES SO THEY AREN’T WRONG
Seriously, this is just a matter of hiring somebody for good translating. I hope to see this among the improvements as they polish this campaign up.
