Today I would like to share with this comunity my love for the game but also some memories kept in a box.
Stalingrad is a polemic campaign in the game, but the dev manage to convince me with one thing today.
A couple days ago, we recieved the very good screenshot our furry boy Keofox. It show the hard work of the dev to make an accurate reconsitution of Stalingrad base on historical pictures
And today the dev have announced the campaign weapons and vehicules for the Stalingrad campaign.
On very little thing that can be described with 116*26 pixel change my point of view.
Not because of the First « french » squad in the game but because it make me open the memory box I had from my pass away grand’pa « Papi » in French.
Here is what was inside this box.
« Moi à 20ans,
élève Pilote
Réalisation d’un bomb train
pour apprendre Ă Bombarder
niveau Ingénieur »
Me at 20yo,
Pilot student
doing a Bomb training
to learn to bomb
engineer level.
He lived in Lorraine (Est of France close to germany). When he was around 4, my great father decide to go emigrate to France from Italy. Back in the time in France there was Jobs, free education, and was more politicaly stable than Italy.
He grew up and when the war started he was old enough to go working in germany. The German needed the work power of the occupied France for the war industry. He was supposed to take the train to go to factory, far from home.
On his way to go there he was approched by a familly friend. Thanks to him, my grand’pa manage to go to Great Britain.
He enlisted in the Royal Air Force in order to become a flight crew.
He was trained on a Potez63.
« Papa 1945
Avion pour apprendre à piloter »
Dad 1945
Plane to learn to flight.
He soon became a crew member, ready to fight. Along his fellow crewmate and mechanic.
« Mon mécano avion (unreadable) »
My flight mechanic (unreadable)
« Près pour le bombardement et chasser (not readable) »
Ready for the bombing and hunting (not readable)
He was ready for his mission took a last picture with his crew mate and begun his first missions.
« Bombardier Wellington (not readable) »
If I remember well, he told me his goal was to aim and to calculate the trajectory of bombs, using a bomb scope.
« Bombardement de Dresde à l’aube par Wellington »
Bombing of Dresde at dawn by Wellington.
I got a picture he took named « Bombing of Dresde Germany ». It looks taken from a Wellington unfortunatly the picture is too damage to see anything.
War was raging and lots of plane went missing. Both for Egland and Germany the casualties were high. But some plane could make it. If heavely damage the priority was to land first, « Enemy territory » was secondary.
« Junjer 88 Super Stuka
papa »
One day they recieve a surreal visit. A Junker 88 decide to land on the airfield. Oil problem ? damage ? Deserter ? I didn’t ask him back in the day. I just know the Royal Airforce got a new premium plane.
The Super Stuka looks to have some engine problem as in the title of the picture we can see the world « Moteur » (Engine).
The story doesn’t tell if it flought again or if he could have been used against its own factory, and my grand’pa never told me.
Because the story is soon finish and the last picture of the box reveal itself.
A lot didn’t came back, and maybe that the biggest memory of all. The one whose names are mark in stones and tears. For this is the most devastating conflict the world has known. That harmed everyone in this planet.
At the end you got picture in a box, but you got also the memory that this was the world we lived in. But even the memories are lost and the picture fade away during the time. It makes me remember that at the end, what matter are the choices me make, for nothing last forever, So let’s hope we will not live the same Story.
« Les copains d’abord,
tous mort »
Friends first for all
All dead.
« Les copains d’abord », George Brassens 1964
So thanks Keo @1942786 for the Potez 633, it meant a lot to me.
