You know, lots of things in this game piss me off, and the vast majority of them have to do with BOTS. I am in Tunisia assaulting a cap point to which I was killed. So, I switch to my next squad bot, which the dumbass happens to be hanging out in the grey zone, why? Have no clue, but ok. I switch and it takes time to reorient myself to the new surroundings and I am not sure which way to get my bot out of the grey zone, so, “HE DIES”. I mean, this is NOT what the grey zone rules are for, idiotic three year old mentality bots who, like a three year old wander where they are not supposed to. They won’t stay in a room when ordered. They won’t stay in a trench when ordered. They lag 500 meters behind the soldier your playing with, and when they do keep up they insist on crawling in front of you when your trying to shoot, so, I guess I shouldn’t expect them to be smart enough NOT to wander in the grey zone. And lets say the BOTS didn’t enter the grey zone, but the map moved leaving them in the grey zone, why are they not programmed to get out of the grey zone on their own?
I understand the reason why DF implemented the time limit for running into grey zones, but when DF OWN IDIOTIC BOTS run into them on their own, I think WE should have additional time to get the ignorant thing out. Just sayin
I cannot speak for everyone, but my BOTS ruin my gameplay far more then bad team mates.
I also believe players and bots should have ‘progress towards a solution’
This means if you’re actively trying to make your way out of the greyzone you wont be killed.
A timer only activates if you start shooting.
As youd be aware theres times when the point moves and you were far back on the original point (say you spawned in an APC which are spawned way back)
Now you’re extra far behind and will likely die regardless of your actions.
There’s also common sense like if Im running away from greyzone and theres an enemy right there then yeah Im not gonna just run past hoping he doesnt see me Im gonna take him out. I see no reason why I should be penalised for that.
Maybe when the objectives move there should be 20 seconds for example and after that everyone who isnt based the new respawn point is automatically redeployed at said spawn if that makes sense.
This would make defensive games fairer when the defenders are constantly running backwards and by the time they get to the new defensive point it’s already half-captured.
I mostly use my bots as extra lives.
Constantly ordering them to go stand somewhere safe.
My extra lives mostly do as they are ordered.
But for a while now, there has been a bug which causes one of your bots to run away to nowhere, despite your orders to stay.
It can be funny to see this; my bot squad is ordered to stay safely behind me while I am capping the point, but suddenly I am passed by one of my bots who comes running past me, straight into enemy territory, without any fear, towards an early death.
Perhaps that was your guy, running into the grey zone.
(This behaviour can be corrected by cancelling and ordering to stay again)
My girlfriend would attest as to how much I bitch about my bots as she has to hear me cussing almost every game. I get the occasional game where my bots do as ordered, but far to many they seem to do what they want. Like you, they are only additional troops for me, but usually no matter what I instruct them to do, they almost all die before I can use them.
I remember my friend built a rally point near the grayzone in one of the Berlin maps, every time we used it, more than half of our team would get killed! The bots would go to the gray zone for no reason and get killed!
I agree: Can’t even count how often my bots have been killed by the map moving on and them being so far in the grey zone they die. Happens to me as well all the time, because if I am in the middle of fighting for my life at the front line, it often happens that the map moves on without me noticing and then even sprinting, I never make it to the new “safe” zone and die. So one is punished as a player if one fights at the front line trying to stall the enemy.
I wish they would rethink the whole grey zone thing altogether (without the grey zone those paratroopers would actually be able to do their RL jobs for example).
Yeah like guerillas have their own problems they introduced and instead of giving us a whole new ill-defined class they couldve just either got rid of the greyzone, or actually enforced it.
People rant about all these ways (very few of which are actually applicable in all situations) that players can take out a tank in the greyzone while never actually answering WHY we need the greyzone in the first place.
Or more specifically why we need an Out of Bounds area… that applies to some people and not others.
Hell Let Loose doesnt have greyzones the maps are a free for all while some other games use greyzones against ALL players to ensure the map is focused on a specific area.
DF needs to pick one of those options and stick to it.
I have never taken any of my Guerilla squads into the grey zone. I get to playing and don’t realize when I am playing that I can do it. About 80% of my tank kills come from my dive bombers, and in my almost three years of playing, maybe two or three times have I strayed into the grey zone far enough to be able to take out a tank, but this was with unprotected squad members who if I remember correctly barely made it back across the grey zone line to survive. I had max grenade throwing with those guys so they could chuck it quite a distance.
I don’t hardly ever play with a tank, but I notice a lot when I throw an explosion pack, even if I am pretty sure the tank doesn’t see me they seem to try and move almost immediately when the pack lands. Do they have some kind of indicator that alarms them of an active grenade outside?
@Luvs2spooge - There actually is the same “indicator” - regarding bombs and grenades - showing for tankers like they appear for infantry, so that is why they know something is up and can try to hightail out of the immediate area before the explosion happens.
(I actually dislike all those indicators being present, same with the kill camera that practically makes a good stealth approach moot. Especially the latter was a bad thing to put into the game because this is not Counterstrike.)
I really think the best option would be to remove the grey zone as well as the “forced” map movement. That way the enemy actually will have to push everyone back on a broader front and the allied troops would need to be mindful if they are becoming isolated and retire to a better position. This way all of that it would be in the players hand and according to their own decision what happens, which IMHO would be a good thing.
Yeah, I have learned to hold them till I think they are going to explode in my hand before I throw it. Otherwise, I try and guess which way he might want to escape and throw it a head of or behind him. Every soldier I have that carries a rifle carries three explosion packs, and if I have that guy, I sometimes have to chuck more then one.
I prefer to use AT weapons most of the time, all my squads have one of them, especially in BR5 it’s very hard to destroy tanks with explosive packs. I think I’ve learned the ammo locations of most tanks in the game.
However, the first soldiers to die in my squads are always the radio man and the at gunner. This must be a curse!
