Latest update renders tank's HE rounds and bombs near useless

After the bomb was weakened, the p47 became the strongest attack aircraft because it had 10 powerful HVAR rockets. As for the 500-pound bomb, it is now difficult for me to use it to kill anyone and vehicles. In one round, I threw bombs into the woods many times, but I still couldn’t destroy a PUMA and infantry in the woods. I don’t know why, maybe every tree has a protective effect?By the way, the enemy in that round had a JU188. It dropped bombs three times, but failed to kill more than 10 people. It may be the era of rockets now (not including M8 rockets) :upside_down_face:

Sounds like the trees absorbed the shrapnel.

You can still pilot snipe him if you aim just above the cockpit fuselage tbh

As it should be

Affraid I have not tested AA, pretty bad with it so dont get good input really.

Anyone has tested?

I honestly preferred the old system.

Bombs wiping your team is dynamic and encourages them to be more spread out. It also breaks stalemates between teams.

Now even A-20s and Ju-188s do a pittance of damage, and it’s jarring to see over a ton worth of bombs getting dropped in an open beach and literally only ending up with 1-5 kills.

Players may dislike bombers, but I enjoy bombing and getting bombed. My games in Normandy- Known to everyone else as bomb hell, have become almost completely stagnant. There are planes coming to bomb a point, but barely scratch the defenders/attackers.

It no longer feels like a tug of war that can be decisively settled a bombing run. It’s just a boring old team deathmatch where if a team can’t progress, they really can’t progress. There’s no sudden danger of losing the point because of a bomb- That’s become irrelevant.

It’s either you and Hans are just waiting for the match to end while crewing HMGs on a beach, or you and Bob swarming the point without a care about retribution.

Agreed. Maybe it is a form of Stockholm syndrome, but I miss the bombs. Sure they sucked and were devastating, but it kept the game feeling hectic and frantic in a way Moscow and Berlin could not:

  • the panic of hearing bombs drop and not knowing if they were friendly or deadly;
  • the sense of relief and joy of seeing your allied bomber clear the cap, letting you finally push after the cap had become a stalemate

Now things feel more stale and I am not getting that same adrenaline rush I used to. Also I have no reason to use my fighters anymore. Hardly anyone is flying in their bombers or if they are, they are so ineffective, it is better to just ignore them and keep pushing as infantry/in a tank. I really enjoyed the dogfighting and hunting down that A-20/Ju-188 that just wiped my team and keeping the skies clear.

But its way better to get repeatly killed by spongy planes?
“Tug of war” lol.

Now that plane models are mostly fixed, they’re no longer flying tanks.

Planes break stalemates.

If the intent of CAS was for precision strikes, they shouldn’t have introduced larger payloads in the first place. They put themselves in this situation.

Depends much on the theatre.
In Moscow it feels like they fixed the fighters only as Stuka and IL are still kinda spongy.
In Normandy they all die a lot though.
But maybe its just my assumption.

And the game. Especially Normandy was pure cancer and most of the time they just helped the side which already had air surpremacy. Its ot fun getting nuked all the time across the whole map.

Still doenst justify giving bombs unrealistic physics. Both in term of OP and UP but I prefer UP if I have to choose.

Ah yes. As “unrealistic” as seeing a bomb drop 5 meters in front of you, going prone and not taking any damage.

Not even headshake.

The funny bit is that, with the explosive mass inside bombs, they should have a larger lethal kill radius, with an even larger serious injury radius. The patch introduced upward-exploding shrapnel, but doesn’t even account for shrapnel that could spread downwards. Here’s a sample:

It doesn’t even introduce a lethal blast wave- Something that you can visibly see from a bird’s eye view from the spawn screen when you see a plane bomb something.

Before you ask, yes, it is possible to damage and/or kill yourself with your own bomb.

I don’t see how bombs are gamebreaking pre-nerf aside from the fact that planes used to be almost invincible. Something that’s been somewhat remedied.

If their goal was to be as realistic as possible, then they’ve failed. Again, if their intent was less powerful bombing runs, they should have simply not increased bomb payloads to how they presently are to preserve said realism.

And for reference, this is quoted from a paper written by doctors in critical care:

For example, a suicide bomb containing 1-10 kg of TNT has a lethal blast range of 5 meters and a range for serious injury of 10-30 meters.

And the bombs that we have- Have a far larger explosive mass equivalent inside, with most bombs having an explosive weight roughly equivalent to 30-40% of the bomb’s weight. So even a 100lb/50kg bomb has far more explosive power than the 1-10kg reference mentioned in the same paper.

Which is why I said that both ways are unrealistic and stupid but that I still prefer not getting nuked all the time over getting nuked all the time.

If you want realism then I assume you would want bombs to kill teammates as well, right?

Darkflow devs have you tried to kill a tank with 100kg bomb post-nerf?

You have to put the bomb within ~1m to kill sometimes, even “white hit marker” direct drops are not guaranteed to do serious damage to a Pz 4 anymore.

Given how terrible the visibility on Berlin is, coupled with low render distance, bad flight models, and relatively low rewards, Soviet planes are a complete waste of a squad slot now.
