Ladders for engineers

Something I find intriguing. Engineers don’t make ladders. In a war, someone always carries a ladder. In the game this is very much needed, as there are places you can climb Not to mention that it would help the team tactically. It’s something basic that should be there.

Suggestion: add a ladder for engineers.

I kinda like this idea, although, most buildings can already be climbed to high places, would it really be a good idea to have many people sitting on rooftops? Those positions are incredibly annoying to deal with, and a lot of roofs in the game physically cant even be climbed (invisible walls)

Some objectives would be a lot better with a ladder to climb a wall (think Al Jabal Farm) but thats more of a map design issue than a ladder issue :joy:

Okay idea, but needs a lot more thought IMO

I agree that snipers on roofs are annoying, but Im inclined to say that if people can use engineers wisely then good on them.

Indeed a sniper from a ‘legal’ rooftop and one who has accessed it via a constructed ladder is equally annoying. Both would be accessible if flanked provided that the ladder remains in place.

One of the reasons I believe this definitely needs to be added is because game-generated ladders and wooden stairs are often destroyed by artillery. This means enemies can be on top of a wall or building and there’s often zero way to reach them.

Being able to repair ladders would really help fixing that issue.

Id hardly call it OP either given that one would usually need to be constructing ladders under fire.

You can build a sandbag wall to jump on to then climb on many roofs.

thats not really practical and the ones Im thinking of are much higher like the fort in Tunisia.

Ladders just make more sense imo then trying to manipulate the computer with sandbags parkour.

I guess if you wanna have two men carrying it moving at half speed. Should fit into the game perfectly /s

?? why would we have that??

We just mean engineer walks up selects ladder from the options of constructions, the ladder appears as green or red showing where it is allowed to be built and then the engineer clicks and holds as the soldier ‘builds’ the ladder.

Not sure what’s so confusing about that idea?

It’s not confusing - I just think engineers being able to build tall ladders anywhere isn’t easy to accept as a good idea without further thought or detail. The last thing I want is members of my team (on attack) using ladders to find better sniping spots. We all know that would be a significant portion of how this mechanic would be used.

So, guess, I’m saying if you want some sort of siege ability, make two engineers carry a tall ladder to the wall they want to siege.

Better yet, don’t waste dev resources on it?

I’m pretty sure the developers aren’t skilled enough to add this.

Just spawn them 5cm above the ground, facing forward at 15 degrees angle, they would stop physics when hit by an object. Biggest problem would be it bouncing around or even falling backward.

Maybe it would be better to have a simple, fixed ladder like this:

I don’t know how useful it would be, but I’m sure the developers couldn’t give us anything better than this.

Now I remember that there was something like this on the Normandy map, unfortunately I don’t have a screenshot.

Me with new Engineer buildable ladder
