For the more even matches this is simply not true IMO
Sometimes you have to kill off enemy spawns or you’ll run out of reinforcements. Sometimes they have competent tanks skullfucking your team. Sometimes you need to fight air, either to defend your stuff or kill their stuff. You have to build rallies. Sometimes you have to play like a total rat. Sometimes you have to brute force the point
I don’t know. For me most matches are about running forward (be it towards objective, enemy rally, tanks or whatever) while holding the trigger.
Other things exist but are more of an exception than the norm.
I am in the same position.
It felt nice to unlock new stuff and try out new stuff, but thankfully the gameplay is good enough that its still fun to do the 20,000/2 days and grind through the events. Also I like the fact they added bot tanks to the custom games a lot cause if I just wanna play with specific squads on a specific map with bots then I can do that and still get to fight tanks which is great.
It would be good if we could convert extra silver or XP into clothing customization orders or maybe even vehicle paint jobs or decals. I like all the customization options but across all the multiple campaigns it ends up being quite a lot of clothing orders of you have maxed out squad slots as well.
Or maybe just add more battle ratings and more weapons and vehicles from future eras and have the silver and XP transfer over:
BR 6 - Korean War era
BR 7 - Vietnam War era
BR 8 - Cold War 80s era
BR 9 - Gulf War era
BR 10 - Global War on Terror era
Something like that.
That is certainly one way of looking at it - but grind also give a sense of progression, and even “reward” for small achievements - that’s a pretty [powerful motivator and enjoyable for a lot of people, and easy to incorporate into a game.
And I’m happy to confess that I enjoy each little bit of progress in this and other games.
if game is worth playing it should be worth playing with or without grind.
And that is also a good idea, but one that is very much more expensive to create that grind.
And also my point - because it ain’t - the gameplay is pretty much nonsense.
I’m a relative newcomer to grindy games - most of my life I’ve played what you’d call strategy games - wargames mostly. In those the game is everything and there is often no grind at all.
