It’s not like I am new to landing on the CV, I can do it basically 95% of the time with most of the other planes in the Pacific.
I know the Ki 61, was IRL, not a Carrier capable plane, Nore was the Boomerang.
But In game they are intended to be able to land on a carrier, I have tried to land the Ki 61 scores of times on the CV and it basically blows up every time, the Boomerang about half the time.
Has anyone had a similar experience with the Ki 61?
K161 is tough to land, as flaps tear if going too fast, remember to put landing gear down too, I sometimes forget, especially when damaged. I can land it though, just don’t come in too fast.
Every single plane can land on a carrier, regardless of if they have an arrestor hook or not assuming it fits (the twin engine planes can have issues with their wings running into the control tower). This was done for gameplay reasons, as it would be kind of unfair if only a select few planes could repair on the pacific maps.
You don’t actually have to land well, the arrestor mechanic applies to every plane so long as you have the gear out and it’s kind nutty. if you nosedive into the carrier, it counts as you landing it so long as you didn’t do it at an absurd speed and have the gear out.
The arrestor hook isn’t really simulated, planes just get massively slowed down whenever their landing wheels touch the carrier deck. Just try not to come down at too high of an angle so your plane doesn’t bounce off the deck and you should be able to land just fine. It’s probably best to land without flaps as the increase in lift will make bouncing more likely.
Nope, just do the belly land technique. I always do it and it saves the time and effort dropping the landing gear and landing flaps. Just don’t be afraid to crash, the carrier will even hook you, so don’t worry about sliding off the ship.
