Keyholing?

This is gonna be a bit of a dumb thread but so be it. Upon talking to another forum member I discovered the term keyholing is actually a really niche and unknown term which surprised me. As a lot of people I know use the term as well.

But upon further research that isnt the case at all.

For anyone who doesnt know, keyholing is basically the practice of shooting from a narrow gap to min max your field of fire vs the enemy’s ability to return accurate fire. Imagine shooting from an arrow slit.

But this news has caused myself and others I know to suffer a mid life crisis because none of us know where we all picked up the same term and how none of us clocked it till now. The best roots of this term I have confirmed is WoTs forum and the Chieftains page, but even then, thats referring to a keyhole position, which is the same as described as above but phrased a small bit differently. Ive also found evidence of it dating back to the original CS community, I feel that its a bit of a military term then as well but I havent got evidence of that.

Anyhow the point of the thread is merely to see what other people think on the term.

That’s an odd definition. Keyholing is where a bullet begins to tumble, usually in mid air but can be used after hitting a target and over penetrating, and hits its target at an odd angle

Thats definitely the textbook definition of it. Thought I always personally just called it “the bullet tumbling”.
