This is how the Medic slot looks like, no secondary but only a Main weapon, Pistol and melee weapon. so and since that they’ve said Katana would be available for all classes, Katana would be a Meele Weapon.
It doesn’t have to. Then how the medic is holding Both Katana and Medic Backpack, and Type 100 altogether? if it is the main weapon, he only would have been carrying Katana.
Keofox have already mentioned it few moth ago at Russian Forum, He said it is one of the Future plans and would be added in near future. But Katana needs no other Technical/coding issues or problems, it just could be added.
Actually, that makes no sense even more than giving Katana only to Assault/Medics.
Medic already has a Medic backpack which gives you a Syringe to heal allies, and the Medkits box at the Secondary slot is to be placed and used once. Both are different, and by code, they couldn’t be merged.
I stand by the thesis about katanas being melee weapons.
Their strength will come from the fact that, unlike event swords, they can be spammed without restrictions, potentially giving to every Japanese soldier a OHK melee weapon, with the attack speed of a knife but the range and lethality of a bayonet.
Meanwhile, the semiauto shotgun is locked to assaulters, and will probably NOT be spammed since SMGs tend to still be better at the job in game.
But it would make sense to take this chance to refine melee combat, ever so slightly, by tweaking attack hitboxes.
Example: sword is the best melee weapon, OHK, fast attack, high range AND wider area of effect (the soldier swings it around). MAYBE, even potentially hitting two enemies at once (side by side, not cutting through).
All other options are weaker, and each others’ sidegrades:
Bayonets have high range and OHK, but slower and with narrower area of effect (the soldier pushes it forward).
Knives have short range, fast attack but don’t OHK unless (OPTIONAL) using a specific stab attack, that’s more powerful but slower and with narrow area (this would require a new animation tho).
Axes OHK, they are slow but can be swung around (wide area of effect)
Shovels behave like axes but don’t OHK (they can dig tho).
Melee attacks with weapons butts are generally the least effective, they keep current speed and damage.

Nope. Medics, engineers, flametroopers, AT soldiers and all the classes whose secondary slot is preassigned to something specific cannot pickup weapons unless replacing their main one. And the medic in the picture obviously still carries his main weapon on his back.
If the katana is a main weapon then I highly doubt it will be used much. Only way I see it to be viable is if it is a melee weapon. It would make more sense as well since they have sheathes for the swords.
