After have completing the campaign of Normandy for both sides I can say with certainty that the M10 and Jumbo should switch sides. The jumbo is the real american endgame tank and apart from me playing the M10 I never saw anyone using it. For apparent reasons:
Painful slow turret traverse
Extremely vulnerable to everything - Even a Puma can pen you frontally
Open top vehicle exposing your Commander all the time
No coaxial MG
50.cal MG gets out of ammo extremely fast (just 2 or 3 reloads) - then youre dry and helpless against infantry
So what does it have on the plus side?
Better penetration - might be able to challenge Panther frontally - I really don’t know how well that works. First I never came into such a situation and you cant even prepare for it since for unknown reasons there are no Panthers standing around on the practice grounds
Marginally faster
Now dear devs take a look at this list and consider please that this tank is meant to be an upgrade, being rated 11 top campaign levels higher.
Yet there’s reason why an exchange would be preferable:
Placing the best tank on top of the campaign would actually make sense
If you want to get rid of Panthers you don’t call for an M10 - you’ll call for an airstrike. It’s ridiculous easy with a Thunderbolt. You can even get rid somewhat reliably of multiple Panther with just one go
At its current level the Germans have nothing to really challenge a Jumbo - so everyone is rightfully annoyed about it being OP
Placing the M10 at lvl 20 would allow the US to at least challenge Panthers - even if at an disadvantage. It’s by no means a death sentence for Germany though. but rather an upgrade for US players for situations where you want to deal with enemy tanks while many people would possibly still prefer the M4 Sherman for its versatility on the battlefield
To be fair it’s the only reasonable position in the campaign where the M10 would actually at least be used sometimes. I thoroughly urge you to consider this proposition. Having already completed the campaign I have no interest in arguing to make it easier for myself - I just want to see the game become more balanced and the experience for other players improved.
I finished the American side and started the axis
I agree that the M10 should be swapped with Jumbo, but on the condition that Jumbo gets a 76mm cannon
In my opinion the Jumbo doesn’t really need to be able to penetrate a Panther as it has other strength a Panther doesn’t have like the strong 50 cal and being able to play 95% of the time of a match with HE only and still be able to take on most enemy tanks you will typically encounter with little threat to yourself. A Panther won’t have an easy time either to penetrate a Jumbo and I still won multiple encounters against a Panther with my Jumbo by simply taking out his barrel first. If you prefer something less tricky the way to go against Panthers is simply to call for superior US ground attackers, where there are always some in the air.
The Panther actually has it pretty easy to penetrate a Jumbo even from the front, the only reason shooting the barrel works before your Commander and Gunner get clapped is because the player in the Panther is dumb. Even then you’ll still need to flank to take it out, and again, if you can flank it then the player in the Panther is dumb.
It’s a game wiki and I have not found any record of it AT ALL that it was used during Normandy this is the closest thing I could find that mentioned a jumbo
That’s Normandy the landing ON NORMANDY not 7 months after THE LANDING why does every single map take place on a damn beach BECAUSE ITS THE NORMANDY LANDINGS
If that campaign was only about landings, then Germans would have only Hotchkiss H35/39, Renault R-35/40 and Char B1 bis, as they only had old French tanks on first day of landing.
I’m just trying to be semi-historical here I know the panther wasn’t present at d-day but the M4A3E8 wasn’t anywhere near the landings it doesn’t make sense to add it either since we have the M110 and firefly already
