Soviet Russia tried to attack Poland after the civil war was basically over. Before that, Poland took the lead in entering Ukrainian territory to encircle and suppress the Soviet Union.
Poland started the war of 1919-21. Which began to advance and seize the lands of historical Orthodox Ruthenia.
