By all standards the Type Otsu Rifle is very lackluster when compared to the semi-auto rifles from the other factions at BR III. The M1 Garand, Gewehr 41 and SVT-38 are superior in both damage and magazine size. The Japanese Type 4 rifle is similarly inferior to the other tier IV semi-auto’s. Overall, the Japanese tech-tree rifle line is quite thin.
Seeing as the Gold Order weapons will no longer be available soon I suggest moving the Type Hei Rifle (Late) and Type Hei Rifle 10 to the tech tree, staying at their current BR. The Type Otsu should move to tier II, it is ultimately only somewhat better than the regular Type Hei. The Type 4 could then move to tier III.
This would give the Japanese faction more flexibility and competitiveness at tier III and IV.
I don’t think the devs will ever move the gold order 10rd Type Heis to the TT given that it was a monetized piece of equipment acquired through the gold order system.
I’ve heard rumors of the Type 4 being moved to BR 3 given that it lost its reload buff and is now more comparable to G41s.
While factions don’t need to be 1:1, Type Otsu is significantly weaker than other semi-auto rifles of the same BR.
This quickly becomes a problem with squads such as engineers or radiomen that are primarly equipped with standard rifles since they will always be at a disadvantage.
Supposedly there are 10 round Type Otsu rifles… I have zero evidence though.
Edit: Did some digging, the Type Otsu was based on the ZH-29 so people just probably assumed it also could be loaded with 5-10-20 magazines even though it has a fixed magazine.
Well i think we will receive Type Kō Rifle at BR III with scoped version its not a perfect rifle but its better then otsu and otsu can be moved to BR II.
What could also be intresting is if they increased the damage of the Type Otsu. Then it could have an intresting role as a semi with high damage but low ammo capacity. Then there would at least be a little bit more asymetrical balance.
4th row (type otsu with 1060 mm length)says the variant of type otsu which is 100 mm short was tested with 10 round.
Also ZH-29 magazine is removable , there is lever behind mag which allows mag to be removed .
I understand about them being a monetized piece of equipment. On the other hand, the developers are free to formulate their own policy on former GO weapons. Now would be a great time since they’ll be removed as such
BTW type otsu is not the only semi-auto with more than five round , there are other semi-autos like M1 garand chambered in 7.7(8round) or type ko cavalry (image below ) and a lot of foreign bought Semi-autos which can be added to Japan i have high hope devs are aware of them and at some point will add them.
The Otsu still has visual recoil. Making 2 shots land at the exact same spot in rapid succession is far from guaranteed, standing or crouched. Its 5 round magazine is low and the gun struggles at tier III. A 10 round Otsu, which has been shown to exist, would be great at tier III
I mean, Darkflow has basically turned premium content like the AS44 and KV2 into tech tree equipment. It’s not unprecedented.
Maybe they could just add the Type Hei 10 to the tech tree, give it a cruddier looking texture and maybe slightly worse stats. Somewhat like the SVT-38 vs SVT-40
Keep the old gold order version as a more pristine alternative
