I wasn’t sure if this is a bug, or left out on purpose, but the Japanese Type 96 LMG doesn’t allow use of the attached optic like the Type 99 does. It was widely used and modelled, so it would be nice if it was available.
Thanks

We’ll probably get sniper variants of the 96 and eventually the 99 in the future; just like all the other sniper weapons
i dont want sniper variants, i want lmg with optics
???
Sniper light machine gun, seriously?
Well, if FG-42 can have it, why not?
Because the FG 42 is not a light machine gun, first of all.
Second, with scope it was actually meant to be used as a squad DMR, while the Type 97 has a scope because it’s a tank MG nad Type 96 has it for accurate long rang full auto fire (so not as a DMR).
Hm…
“It combined the characteristics and firepower of a light machine gun in a lightweight form slightly shorter (but considerably bulkier and heavier) than the standard-issue Karabiner 98k bolt-action infantry rifle.”
Enlighten me - what is DMR?
Designated Marksman Rifle
Yes, really - it was meant to be used by the every soldier in the squad, so considering that the Germans defined they weapons by their doctrinal use and not technical characteristics, it’s not an LMG.
The best way to describe what the FG 42 was is probably that it’s like the MBT (Main Battle Tank) concept, but for a rifle - one rifle to rule them all. To be used as a:
So one of its functions was an LMG, but not the only one.
Ok, thanks for explaining.
Main Battle Rifle?
Cringegun?
Well, it was a dead end of weapons development - even now if an army standardizes on one weapon family, there’s an assault rifle, LMG/SAW variant and a DMR variant.
But yes, the best way of describing it’s function would probably be main battle rifle.
No…
Twas the stg44 and family’s role…
During the war Japan occassionally used scopes on their lmgs.
Its just like how we have sniper variants of the MP43/STG44, FG42, Gewehr 43, etc
For the army, yes. But for the paratroopers it was the FG 42 as they wanted a full power rifle cartridge.
I know that, but the Japanese scoped LMGs weren’t meant to be used in semi auto as DMRs (like all of the German weapons you listed), but still in full auto like normal MGs, just with extended range, which was also possible because they were very accurate.
Scope in type 99 is broken as well wen you move the visual your visual become black and return normal wen you stop
FG is SAW.
Just so we are clear, the Japanese did routinely equip LMGs (Both the 96 and 99) with optical sights - Forgotten Weapons has a good video on both. They also didn’t (and don’t in game) have single shot capability and their dispersion is significant. The use of optical sights is historical, the sight is modelled in game on the 96, and it would be nice to have it in use.
Cheers
Not really. Or rather “not just a SAW” - it was also meant to be used as a semi auto rifle, as an SMG in close quarters and (with the scope) as a DMR.
