Japan Engineer squads unlock in.... BR4?!

The Tier 2 Engineer squad for Japan is unlocked in BR4… That is not right. It occurs to me that low level frustration for Japan is almost CERTAINLY because of having to wait for BR4 to unlock the squad. For reference; the US unlocks THEIR Tier 2 Engineer squad… IN BR2. Soviets and Germans unlock theirs in BR3. I strongly believe this NEEDS to be fixed. Either unlock them with the Type 99 (early) if you want to keep them apace with the US, or the Type Hei, if you at LEAST want to balance them with, y’know, EVERYONE ELSE.

You can still use the high tier squad in low BR, it’s a pretty common strat. Just give them low tier weapons. Then you can build the MG in br1 if you want.

Granted, but it’s not about rushing for a second engineer squad. It’s about the fact that you’ll be farming for a weapon that you don’t want to use (because going in to BR4 as an inexperienced player is basically instant death) while ignoring other valuable upgrades that would make progression easier.

Well I think the author is mainly complaining about the fact that you need much more xp to get to the Engineer squad with the Japanese than with the US, as the US one is locked behind a much more accessible Tier 2 weapon, while the Japanese one is locked behind a Tier 4 one.

Sure this is somewhat unfair, but keep in mind that the Japanese also have the advantage of having much less weapons to research overall. For instance there is literally no weapon between the Japanese assaulter III and IV squad while with the US you have to go through 4 or 5 almost identical Thompson submachine guns.

Fewer weapons and less experience might SOUND balanced, until you realize that defeats mean less xp, to the tune of about %50. Also, keep in mind; Japan, for some reason, seems to be on the defense almost all the time. A situation where Engineering squads are very useful. Sure, the US has more XP between medics and assaulters II, but keep in mind, the US SMG’s are virtually in all ways superior to the Japanese; which can be summed up as “underpowered and largely bought in relatively small batches from other countries”. As to the US having to wait for a third assault squad, well, the US and Japanese Assaulter III squads both unlock… First SMG unlock of BR4.

Don’t worry, I know all of this, I never played Japan before the merge and wanted to grind them a month ago. I have a 35% winrate with japan while it is at 75-80% for any other faction. However this has nothing to do with eequipment but is caused by current player imbalance. Wait for the next major update, it will had many japanese equipment and maybe attract more japanese player, until that there is no point in playing japan.

Well US Assaulter III squad unlock the first Tier IV smg as well, while you need to wait for Tier V to get the assaulter IV (and a weapon that is arguably worse than the japanese Tokyo SMG).

Partially true, the lack of potential engineer squads (especially as opposed to the US who gets them at half the BR) is a factor, I believe.

Only weapons and vehicles affect class
The squad itself has no levels

Right, I get that, but the point is that one has to grind to unlock a BR4 weapon in order to unlock the squad.

But you only need to unlock 7 rifles to become level 4
The US military needs 9 to 10

The value of the engineering team lies in anti-vehicle fortifications
It’s not for you to use to get infantry.
If you want to use a machine gun
The machine gun squad’s heavy machine gun is better than his

In my view; it’s not about number of unlocks. It’s about how far one has to go in the tech tree. I haven’t crunched the numbers, but I’m fairly certain those 9-10 rifles probably cost less XP, over all, to unlock than the fewer Japanese rifles. As far as the “purpose” of engineering squads. They are, as the game says “very versatile”. Rallies, AA, AT, LMGs, ammo crates. To say they’re only for vehicle fortifications is just wrong.
