I have been feeling like the M18 GMC is underpowered, it gets outclassed in armor by all other german tanks, the SDK has more survivability than the M18 GMC and thicker armor. The M18 has 13 MM armor both side and front, with 8MM top, I can never survive an artillery or bomb run even if I’m pretty far away from it. I think its a very underwhelming reward for level 40. I cant pen late game panzer or tigers, all German tanks one shot the M18. Why was this a level 40 reward? I feel like it needs upgrade, Its already vulnerable as it is with its open top. The U.S is severely outclass tank wise, and this leads to being stomped whenever Germans decide to use their tanks effectively.
american tank destroyers absolutely wrecked german tanks in real war. the problem is; maps are too small and compact for decent tank gameplay. just head on confrontation.
The M18 is actually a very capable tank however it’s most valuable asset, its speed and mobility is practical worthless right now on Enlisteds Normandy maps. With larger play areas and perhaps a great diversity of maps for Normandy (Few less rolling hills) the Hellcat would be a fantastic option to out-maneuver your opponent
That makes sense. When it comes to head to head confrontation, its almost always destroyed. Bigger maps would allow decent flanking. Then Using destroyers would actually make some sort of sense. Right now, they dont really fit in or are even practical in the current maps of Normandy since they are very small.
M18 was designed for fast movement to get on the flanks and rear of German armor. This game and the maps do not fit that play style. That’s why i never play it
Having bigger maps isn’t retarted. Not everyone like clusterfucks and not being able to move an inch to their side. Furthermore, not everyone likes to get their tanks stuck in hallways, holes, hills, and get blown up 1 minute into gameplay.
The M18 is a Tank Destroyer, it is not a tank, it has a very powerful gun, I think you just need to practice surviving and not trying to use such a light tank as a tank, it is a move fast peek, destroy move away tactic which is needed when using it. If you can’t manage there is always the 76 Sherman…
What some people say about map size, I can still flank on certain maps, but there are some which I have to use M2 as my defence more as it’s very cqc.
I just wish M18 Commander could duck like the M8 Scott, that maybe CAS bombs where not quite so powerful against it when 100m or at the edge of the bombing circle even.
The armor is thin, to be sure, but I found it to be okay when I actually used it. It is easy to disengage and as long as the enemy doesn’t shoot at you, you should be fine.
The speed, the M2 machine gun, and the AI that shoots the gun are reassuring.
However, I feel it is not enough as a reward for level 40; it should have been in the position of M10GMC.
