Is the Chi-Ha a good tank?

With the new map coming to the pacific I’m getting back into the campaign and was wondering, is the Chi-Ha a good tank? I got it with the Greyhound awhile back when the pacific campaign was first added and since I’ve never played the Japanese I don’t know if the tank can stand up to US tanks or not, I know Japan suffers when it comes to vehicles so that’s why I ask this question.

It’s in top 3 tanks for Japanese currently. But it’s still mediocre af.

it’s mediocre at best.

it’s like an improvement and we could call it better ha-go.
but… not really.

it just has slighlty more armor, and HE.

but
you still need to switch to the machinegunner seat to actually use it.

It has usable HE, by usable I mean you have to hit a spot two times to kill a spread of 3m. 1m is about the lethal kill radius, so the best HE of either sides until the M8 or ho-I is unlocked. The pintle and hull mg are good for eliminating foes closing in on your tank. The HEAT is a slot machine when used against tanks (pre update experience), it may be better now or worse.

Pretty much the 2nd best tank in the campaign.
1st: Ho-i
2nd: Chi-ha
3rd: m8–>Unless you are in a good spot, then #1.
4th: stuart flamethrower.

One of the best Japanese tanks but still has that annoying mechanic of having to switch to commander position just to use machine gun. Its much worse handicap than the early T-34s where atleast the T-34 allows you to use both main gun and MG on the gunner position despite lacking a proper commander for the vision.

I think what would be a good mechanic is that when you take control of the gunner, your ai machine gunner will shoot people if they are in the arc of fire for long enough

If you like long-range fire, let’s say indirect fire at enemies, then each shot is the extermination of the team, two. The most I’ve sent to the sand with a single HE shot is a 30 type, but like all Japanese tanks, you have fried rice armor.

I more or less just avoid armor in that campaign in the general, for the Allies you have to worry about that dreaded AT Rifle the Japanese have, and for the Japanese you have to avoid or suffer the onslaught of the M13. It’s the campaign I go to if I’m just feeling infantry.

The Japanese have one formidable anti-tank weapon, and that’s the 20mm rifle designed to fight Godzilla.
And the Americans will destroy Japanese tanks with everything they have.

Very small tangent…forgive me. Does anyone rate the m8 greyhound?

For me it’s only selling point was that it looked cool and it had a 50 cal on top, other than that it’s an open top tank so expect to get your head popped off by a sniper. If I had to rate it I’d probably give it a 5/10.

Bought it some time ago. Never really played with it. Gave it a go some days ago.
And yeah, had two battles. And I was kinda surprised by how strong the HEAT was.

Like Tovarish mentioned the machine gun has that annoying mechanic
