if you look different ww2 photo of the Breda You Can see soldier stuff small thing in the hole of the buttstock, in this case seems a bullet

That hole is typical for german pattern leather sling attachments - same hole is in butt of Gewehr 33/40 shown in the weapon list, and also in 98k’s etc.

Only 1 hole is required because there is a metal retainer the sling goes through on the other side of hte butt to hold it in place -
