The I.R.A. (Irish Republican Army) could be introduced as a special faction representing the Irish fighters during the early 20th century, focused on unconventional warfare against British forces. They would bring guerrilla tactics, stealth, and sabotage into the game, offering a unique playstyle that contrasts with the more traditional armies.
Key Points:
Unique Weapons & Equipment: Access to the Webley Mk VI revolver, Bren LMG, Lee-Enfield rifles, and homemade explosives like the Irish bomb or improvised grenades.
Tactics: Specialize in ambushes, stealth attacks, and setting traps for enemy vehicles and infantry, making them deadly in close-quarters or urban combat.
Squad Type: The I.R.A. could have a limited-time squad focusing on sabotage or demolition, with skills to plant explosives or disable vehicles.
Playstyle: Emphasis on hit-and-run tactics, blending into environments for surprise attacks, and using explosive devices to disrupt enemy advances.
More Irish fought for the Allies than Germany. A lot more. So making them an Axis squad because of their war of independence against pre-war/post-war Britain seems totally out of place.
And I got to say, I’m on the fence of closing this thread because of the terrorist nature of the IRA. I appreciate you’re Irish, but this is kinda like asking to put Waffen SS squads into the game.
so what seems to be problem here beside a personal one?.
as for the main thread, yeah… other irish units would probably be more aprorpiated as the IRA didnt fought alongside the germans. despite having… more or less a common enemy.
We have literal terrorists in the game as “guerrilla squad”
Definition of terrorist:
“a person who uses unlawful violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims.”
All WW2 resistence movements fit this definition.
Soviet NKVD squads…
And the SS Erika has mentioned.
There really isn’t. Although some Irish supported Germany in the early part of the war, there is very little evidence that any substantial number of Irish fought for Germany. Plenty fought for the Allies though, but under the banner of the British and Allied armies.
Resistance movements in the occupied territories during WWII targeted military personnel and installations, not civilians. The IRA was indiscriminate in their attacks, especially post-war, and often targeted civilian centres to cause mass public outcry.
Any war crimes though?
We also have “1st panzer division” which is TZ-45 squad, that is actually 1st LSSAH division, Hitler’s personal bodyguards. I would think you would find them more controversial.
I have no problem with NKVD or SS squads or any other “controversies”. This is a WW2 game. I’ve suggested some unique NKVD and SS squads. I’d like some Italian RSI squads
They really should’ve made the TZ an ITALIAN squad.
Sigh I always hope they release another squad. They can remove the legacy German and release a new and proper Italian
Most resistence cells never engaged military personel, only police units.
Partisans used civilians as human shield, looted stores and trains, killed or beaten people for their political believes (fascists, democrats and communists depending on the views of the cell) and it gets much worse east of Germany where partisans would slaughter people based on their nationality.
Why do people put labels into my posts to close them. Their are 2 IRA armies my bad for not being more clear their is Official unifomerd in the army IRA and we have the terrorist you speak of. Not all of ireland are terroists. Frustrating go ahead and close it sure its what you want to do. Nobody mentioned SS nobody mentioned terroists only you!
Nah it’s cool. But maybe instead of an IRA squad, perhaps suggest the 38th Irish Brigade instead? It included a few regiments to choose from too. The 1st Royal Irish Fusiliers, the 6th Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, and the 2nd London Irish Rifles. They could make for event squads maybe?
As far as I know, the IRA played no official part in WWII.
And no need to get defensive, chap. I’m actually trying to help…
We fought for britain as the IRA. People hear that word and think Terroists! Disgusts me tbh. If only you knew what britain did to our people. Yet we still helped them fight in ww2. Dont belive everything you hear History Tells Lies.
