I don’t think I’ve seen it here in all the various discussions about the chauchat machineguns and “were they really used?”, but seems they had about 1750 of them available, with about 670 being serviceable, the remainder needing repair -
See Tank Archives: Armoury of the Moscow People's Militia
Other oddities abound - 11mm Gras rifles date to 1874, 10.4mm Vettereli went out of service with the Italians in 1887, there’s a few thousand “7,7mm English” - presumably .303 of some sort, 6.5mm Japanese and Italian rifles, almost 1800 Colt machineguns, almost 40,000 8mm Lebel rifles and carbines of various types, etc…

You understood it wrong
The main problem is that soldiers in Enlisted who use the Chauchat are not people’s militia. They are regular Soviet soldiers who shouldn’t be armed with this gun
Devs should give them different skins
Ther were bucketloads of p[eople didn’t think they should be used at all.
I mean if we’re just going off of what is in inventory we could literally do that for anyone at the time. Looks like they had enfields and mausers too but people would rightly roll their eyes at that as it would be odd to see russians with enfields. I’m sure they were in very limited use and as was stated the issue is really who has them. Make them the correct unit that was issued them.
note that one of the pages notes over 800 Fedorov assault rifles in storage, despite most sources saying that it went out of service after the winter war
