Increasing vehicles to 2 tanks & 1 light vehicle? Thoughts?

What would people think of allowing a light vehicle class into the game? It always seemed odd to me that the puma has an AT cannon rather than the more common Sd.Kfz.234/1 (Gerät 95) with the L/55 autocannon seen below. The Americans could have the greyhound or something similar. Choose between fast recon infantry harassment or possibly a mobile spawn point as a halftrack with a long cooldown timer. I’m sure people would have fun with the Quad 50 seen below. And there is German versions of halftrack AA too.

Seems like currently the entry vehicles are somewhat disjointed. The “Recon” squads pretend and act like a tank. The thing that made them great, speed, is rarely utilized properly. This would also allow new players to practice without taking up a tank slot - that is not why I’ve suggested this though.

At least dev can add such functionality in the editor for testing.

As far as I know this is not yet implementablein the current mod editor.

Since all tanks and vehicle are group in the same type.

that sounds like a good idea though we would need a slight players per match increase to probably around 30 (15 per side)

You played H&G, didn’t you? All your suggestions are a thing in that game.

I think this is a good idea. In addition to 2 tank slots, there is also a light armor slot. This light armor includes self-propelled AA that can both attack air and ground. Although their protection is not very good, it not only conforms to historical facts, but also can bring fun to the game (some friends want more powerful anti personnel vehicles!) For example, both M8 Greyhound and M5 tank are equipped with 37 guns, but Greyhound has a 12.7 machine gun, which is also a rapid reconnaissance / support vehicle of the U.S. Army. Apart from protection, this light vehicle can perform well in encounter battles (facing infantry)

For the US a M 20 would work

The British had several MG armed scout cars or a Vickers MK VI tank maybe for Tunisa

And there are several halftrack variants for the Germans and Western Allies late war to chose from

I would approve of a change to tanks to entail light/medium/heavy tanks, where there is a total value of tanks in play is upto 3, but only two slots and where medium/heavy tanks take two value so in essence you can have two light tanks or one light tank and one medium tank
Same thing can be done for planes

Are these light vehicles modeled in War Thunder though?

The Sdkfz 234/1 does exist in WT as premium gift

Wow so much good feedback! I’m glad you all think there’s something to it!

To Ricky, 30 would be wonderful. This game has the capacity - lets wage war!

To Conscript_Joe, I played H&G for a few hours, it didn’t stick with me - partly due to CPU at the time. Most of my thoughts come from battlefield 1942 (around 2k hours) and company of heroes (around 9k hours) contrasted with the meta of this game. Most of these ideas are 5-10+ years old. Still miss carpet bombing though.

Speaking of the armored light vehicles of the British army, I thought of the Bren carrier (armed with a light machine gun as in the name, but can be equipped with light mortars and wasp flamethrowers as required) and the Dingo car (should be a modified version of the Daimler armored vehicle), while Italy has its cv33 light tanks (armed with only machine guns under normal circumstances, but can be equipped with AT gun or flamethrower as required)

it used to be 15 v15, dont know why it got reduced to 10v10…

30 players fits the game much better

I could be mistaken but my assumption is they’re not building any specific vehicles but they’re using the ones that are currently available in War thunder

I did go through and look at some of the offerings in war thunder and there are some vehicles that would be useful in the game sadly there are no Bren carriers.

There are a number of AA vehicles though for every side that would be useful, and there is a 251/10, a 222 with a 2.8 cm squeeze boar gun, that really cool Italian AS 42, and a variety of other vehicles for different theaters

I could be wrong but again I don’t know that they’re going to be making vehicle specifically for enlisted needs, like APC’s

they NEVER had it as 15v15

we could possibly have the Sd.Kfz.221/222/223, these are basically armored scout cars, close to 2400 were built, these things saw combat everywhere, in nationalist china, in russia, poland, france, africa, normandy. theres also one variant with 28mm mauser gun, intended for hunting tanks.
whats more awesome is that these cars could do 80km/h on road and offroad 40km/h, so it’d be a pretty damn fast scout car that can possibly take out a tank.

Yes the Sd.Kfz. 221/222/223 or the puma originally mentioned would be awesome. As well as equivalent vehicles for the other armies. All the fine folks in here suggesting goes to show how many vehicles could potentially be used. Half-tracks or scout cars would be super fun and could double as a mobile ammo or something.

The speed factor when used properly can have a devastating effect. I’ve seen other people who were just godly at the hit & run and mobile suppressing. Makes a big difference when advancing if the enemy can’t pop their head up and the MG can’t be silenced with a sniper. Especially when it can roll past your cover or run you over. Sure they could be 1 shot by a tank, but I rarely see players that can hit the mark against a vehicle moving faster than 5-10km/hr. Plus a scout car or something similar cruising around would be very efficient at marking enemies.

This is a missing niche and it fits the game well. Please Enlisted Developers, consider it! Adding a light vehicle class would add significantly to the game and allow an entirely new critical military role to be satisfied! But if it is to be done, don’t reduce the tank quantity in the process. 2 tanks + 1 light vehicle on the field would be a good mix.

Also 15 vs 15 would be awesome. Had to say it again

Bump

There is a truck that acts as a troop carrier on the Normandy map “Airfield”. It can hold approximately 8 people in the box plus the passenger. I don’t know if that had any use in Warthunder, so I think it’s probable that got made for this game. But I do not know.

In either case, this game is a money-maker for them so I’m sure if they wanted to they could. The proof of concept has been established - they just need authorization. If Gaijn doesn’t let the masterminds behind this game have a little monetary breathing room to take it to the next level that’s crazy.

They need to solidify it by adding a couple tweaks to make it a true war experience. It would do no wrong to intensify the fight some.
