The Engineer’s AAA portable emplacement is possibly one of the most potentially useful items in the game, considering how overpowered planes are in the right hands.
However, after numerous attempts to use it, it just kind of feels like a waste of time, which sucks because I was actually really excited to unlock it and support my clueless teammates who just load in and shoot whatever is in front of them.
I love this game, and the more I actually discover about how to play it and command your squad, or tweak the controls just right, the better the game feels. Truly.
Point being, every time I place down one of my AAA guns as an Engineer, I never actually get the opportunity to use them. They have to be placed on flat terrain to be effective of course, and somewhere relatively off the beaten path for the enemy team. On top of all these stipulations to placing one down in the first place, when you actually sit down in it, fully exposed, it takes you FOREVER to adjust the aim.
Most players use the planes in sweeping strafe, or, the more commonly seen, kamikaze dive.
The articulation (turning) speed of the anti-air gun just simply doesn’t allow you to catch most enemy targets, at all. You can barely ever aim anywhere near them, let alone land a shot, before you say screw it and leave or just get shot in the seat.

it useless anyway, until the plane damage models/de sync is fixed AAA guns are just a better mg nest.

@mortebianca
Are you saying that you can hardly hit the planes in the first place if you do aim your shots correctly?
Sometimes when i can relay on team i’m sniping enemy CAS with Flak,but mostly “haha,their infantry got rocked”

nah im saying that you can dump 360 20mm rounds and 20 37mm rounds in to a plane and not do any substantial damage, so its useless using them rn.

When flying planes I generally find aaa guns to be very dangerous; if one appears there is a very good chance I’m going to get hit if I can’t deal with it quickly. I was shot down a handful of times just this weekend.
So maybe you just need more practice, or better positioning and persistence. Here’s a few tips:
Most bombers just run a track between the objective and the reload point: Remember where the enemy planes are coming from and wait for them to come back.
Build two aaa guns facing opposite directions and order a soldier to man each one; then you can switch between them by switching soldiers. You can also point them in the same direction and change guns between reloads for maximum uptime.
Just harassing aircraft with aaa fire will force them to either deal with you directly, or change their flight path to avoid you; so you can at least slow them down and maybe even get a manuver kill if they mess up while trying to dodge your fire.
It is actually quite easy to shoot down an enemy aircraft with the AA. I never had any issues with that.
I dont see a need to change the turrets speed. If the airplane flies low, you wont be able to follow him, but it is completely normal.
AA just needs to be easier to aim, an actual sight would be nice and not the dragging reticle
