Increase the distance that a paratrooper plane has to travel before being able to jump

Currently the plane just pops into existence and drops soldiers before there is really even a chance to counter it. Given how effective the paratroopers are, there needs to be both a better chance of taking out the plane with them in it, as well as more time before the drop to reduce the spam a bit.

This could even come with a unique opportunity to take control of a tailgunner slot before the jump, to give themselves a chance to defend against aircraft.

Agreed. Would make it more cinematic too. I like being able to view the battlefield before the drop.

I’m not sure if this is necessary. I think since paratroopers are more powerful than the average squad, then this inclusion might negate the longer travel time.

Also, correct me if I’m wrong, but the transports in game like the C47 don’t have tailgunners.

Idk, I just figured there would be less opposition to the suggestion if something like this were added.

every sane person developing a game would thought this through that popping into existence isn’t anything good nor balanced, i literally can’t be convinced they didn’t do it intentionally. just another cheesy method to make money.

Irl: paratrooper actions require strong air dominance to ensure saftey of transport planes.

Devs: lets make paratrooper plane basically impossible to shoot down by spawning it at the drop point.

i wish df would make more trade-offs between realism and arcade, paratroops as for now are total arcade…
if planes didn’t pop into existence more people wouldn’t deploy right on top of objectives but more on flanks or behind enemy lines, that would be so much better

Yeah but people are impatient and need instant gratification these days (it sucks), and the game has evolved that way, fast paced.

No time to wait or take off from runways, wtc etc

Fyi im all for slowing it down

Well it’s not unbalanced or gamebreaking. It’s just something that should have been done already.

This line of argumentation is really old. Paratroopers are free, they are being introduced now as events and will be transitioned to the tech tree later on.

Most people already have the Pacific ones by now. I’d imagine there will be more Vickers squads than FG ones since the event was set up really stupidly.

Speaking of, why didn’t they just award vouchers so we could pick what squad we want, like in the Silent Hunter event? Not everyone wants both squads.
