For something that’s ostensibly a team-based game, and requires pretty decent coordination at times to deal with certain difficult situations, the ability to actually communicate in-game is godawful. There’s no proximity mic, nobody ever seems to read the chat, console players can’t even SEE the chat, and the chat wheel options are completely useless.
You have console pilots spamming “need enemy coordinates” and hitting nothing, meanwhile there’s no way to tell them “hey the tank was marked like 2 seconds ago, just spam marks around that area and you’ll find it” No way to communicate anything useful like “need another rally on the opposite flank” or “don’t trickle in, wait and storm the objective at once,” or simply “WE NEED TO RUSH THE POINT NOW STOP CAMPING.”
Unless you’re squadded up and in a Discord call, there’s just no useful way to tell certain teammates anything at all and it’s wildly annoying, and stopping to chat is practically a summoning spell for some random straggler to show up and shoot you while you’re standing still. Even just basic crap like if you mark certain targets like vehicles, AT guns, or rallies, there should at least also be an accompanying voice/chat line that pops up, because people need that info and oftentimes they’re not paying attention. Another example: your team has a console player in a tank, there is no way to say “HEY, PAY ATTENTION, SHOOT THAT AT GUN THAT IS MARKED SO IT DOESN’T KILL YOU AND THEN US!” Some people don’t just need information in front of them, they need it to be shoved into their eyeballs and ears, and possibly other orifices at the same time to get them to notice.
The chat wheel needs to be greatly expanded. “We need a rally point”? First of all that implies that your team is fine with 1 rally, which is just false, but also there’s almost never a bad time to put down an additional rally point (so long as its a good location). Those messages need more detail, like for starters we need more rally points, need them from different directions, need them to be placed closer to the objective, etc. Same goes for basically every other message in the chat. I’m sure some guy’s taking potshots at people in the objective from 200m away and thinking “what do you mean? I am attacking the zone.” No, GET ON THE GODDAMN POINT.
