This is a list of things that would improve the game in a positive manner. This would not only make things more attainable, but would increase player time, amount of frustration with bugs, economy, and other things.
Customization
Player customization is a staple point of this game, in the various campaigns that each faction took part in there is a lack of uniforms, as well as choosing a nationality for the soldier. This is an easy fix and requires next to no effort on thought for how to fix this issue The big kicker here is time. Time needed to build the assets and introduce them into the game.
-
Many squads premium, event and regular are lacking adequate customization options whether it be matching helmets, pants, tops to the already existing things, or uniforms in general.
There are a wealth of information not just in the forums, Reddit or other places where enlisted players congregate but all over the internet. Any number of these options can be looked at and implemented in a way that fits best. -
Choosing a soldier’s nationality, This would really only apply to German axis and Western allies. When a soldier is purchased you should be given an option to choose their nationality with a simple yet effective UI interface.
Do I want a German or an Italian? Do I want an American or a British man?
If they ever added subfractions to the Japanese or Soviets this logic would also extend to them and who they are subfactioned with.
Economy
Silver economy with the recent proposed changes is a double-edged sword for two reasons. The first is trading research points for silver could incur a “diminished return” when one thinks “what is my research points worth?” What could easily be a free point conversion can easily turn into something that costs the player, this could be something insignificant as 5% or something is big as 25% of what is being traded. Most players being against this, well it is good to be able to trade your points for silver it should not come with a cost.
The second reason being this may be a umbrella effect to stop any future silver changes as a “solve all” type of fix. This still doesn’t solve many items in this game being outrageously overpriced. Looking at you assaulter IV, and pre-rolled soldier perks.
More on this within the next point. As it also wastes a large number of silver.
Soldier perks/Stat points
When a player purchases a soldier it should not come with random perks already utilizing the points available. It should come as a blank slate so players aren’t sinking mass amounts of silver just to discard a perk for another that they find more useful.
As a further extension of this, soldiers should no longer be RNG and instead roll at max perk points. This would cut down on players having to waste silver by purchasing then selling any soldiers that are not at max. This constitutes to someone spending hundreds of thousands thanks to RNG just to get a squad of seven people with maximum stats.
Match Making and equipment
This is a tricky topic, As such I’ll mainly be looking at equipment and its position so here goes …
Unbalanced matchmaking, This can be seen in many different ways with minimal solutions provided so far that does not include drastic overhauls/complete redesigns of the game.
The factions are balanced in their own right, but that’s only when players know how to fully utilize everything that faction has to offer. Often leading to “meta items” that are often underperforming at higher BR compared to their own. This leads to a lack of accessibility/viability for newer players, overlooking adequate equipment, and a lot of frustration for players playing on a certain BR.
Some weapons may be suited to a tier lower than what they are classified as currently and some may be higher. The IAR plane for example, listed as a BR1 when it completely devastates every other plane of that type in the game at that rating, meaning it should become BR2.
There is many pieces of equipment that still require adjustment and fine tuning to find the sweet spot within their BR. There is also a lot of pieces of equipment that are missing from the various tech trees. American SMGs for example, while the Thompson can be good, A lot of players stick with the lanchester because it has the best versatility for an SMG and it’s only BR2 introducing higher tier weapons that can compete with things like the Thompson at BR3/4 would help strengthen assalters. The same can be said with anti-tank weaponry of each faction, tanks, planes, etc. The only faction that has good anti-tank beyond BR 3 is the Soviets and Germans. Both American and Japanese tech trees are lacking high tier adequate anti-tank weapons.
A more in-depth list of missing equipment would be:
-
BR4 AT for American and Japanese
-
A weapon with muzzle velocity and versatility comparable to sten and lanchester beyond Tier 2. Such as Remington -. 45 Thompson, and Sterling SMG.
-
BR4/5 mortar for Japanese. There are many options, 81 mm is the best fit.
-
shotgun for Japanese, This could be a simple as giving them the Murata bolt action shotgun at BR1.
While this is not the entire list of changes This would begin to move in that direction The closing the gaps within the tech tree and allowing a more " diverse yet balanced" tree for each nation. There are still tanks, planes, and weapons at various BR that can be added to give the opposite faction of fighting chance.
To add to this there’s still a fair number of equipment within the editor that has been left untouched and has not made its way into the game.
Events
Events are a staple point with an enlisted player, often giving them something to do that’s more than completing a tech tree. The loot box mechanic may or may not be good depending on how it’s implemented allowing previous items to be obtained. This should not be used as a stopgap measure to not rerun older events. Events could use a slight rework. instead, some events such as the 6 day events can be lengthened to 14 days.
These 14-day events can still give the same rewards, but allow an extra level of reward for playtime, more time for the devs to focus on quality of life fixes, tech tree equipment, maps, game modes, etc.
14 day rewards:
-
As stated above they can still give the same rewards, but more expanded.
-
Possible rare nickname decorators/portraits
-
Weapons/skinned weapons in greater numbers. Example, from 2 items to 3.
-
Vehicle camos/ vehicle items.
-
More silver, upgrade orders, and boosters not as extra fluff but as a boost to what’s already given. So, instead of 1500 silver it could be 3000.
On top of this, there should be a reasonable break between events. So players don’t feel burnt out doing event after event. This could help fill the gap in that down time.
As for the veteran box, it should not contain items such as silver, upgrade orders, boosters, or cosmetics. Just straight up weapons, vehicles, squads, and rare and unique things like nickname decorators and portraits. The veteran box should also contain duplicate protection, while still being fairly priced.
Bug fixes
This is a big one, from tank shells reliably killing targets hit within a foot, to camera bugs, etc.
Many of the bugs are not game breaking, but there’s still a fair number of bugs that are. Bugs that are game breaking need to be a priority and fixed first, but that doesn’t mean the other bugs shouldn’t get attention as well.
A few bugs to note:
-
“Camera Bug” This is something I dubbed the camera bug because it blocks your field of view for all of your squad mates when you’re controlling them often leading to you wasting an entire match cycling between squads and not being able to see anything. Often coming in the form of random shapes with tan colors. Such as this.
-
Tanks reliably killing with AP type shells, often times this is situation dependent on location of shell, items around shell, soldier etc. Some players have seen a shell fired at them directly and it not register, when it should have killed them.
-
“AT weapon emplacement bugs”, this is when a AT weapon is placed on a unstable ground causing it to either, fall through the map or “jitter around” often making them hard to use.
Proposition: rework the “area required to place” and not let them be placed in every location. Example: not in areas with uneven ground, buildings, over rubble, etc. Basically require a bigger area to place them, even if it’s not by much.
This is not a definitive list but is a few common or becoming more common ones.
Quality of life
This can come in many areas, so there is no one way to suggest a fix in general for all of these as there can be many solutions.
-
XP boosters.
This was touched on within the recent Q/A. Best way to go about this in general would be letting the player choose to use them after a match completes. -
Soldier perks.
Talked about above. -
Optimization of servers.
Sometimes the server lags behind and brings up battle results twice, delayed rewards screens, etc. -
Addition of Oceanic / Asia servers.
This would reduce ping, server load, and lag for much of the games matches. More of a “costly” and technological solution to help improve game connection quality, from a IT network standpoint. -
Log in rewards
This is RNG at its finest. Even going the Warframe route would help. Each day you log in it looks at a selection of rewards based on the day that you can pick from, removing the need to “keep your streak” and instead shifting to a more streamlined login track that counts total days played vs consecutive logins. These can give you things such as silver, boosters of various percentile amounts, upgrade orders, portraits, Gold orders, nickname decorators and appearance orders (I wouldn’t go under 25 for login with this new system). This system would look at the total amount of days you have logged in and scale these rewards relative to your total login count. So a day 5 silver drop of 1500 would be less than a day 45 5000 silver drop, Gold orders would be Soldier, weapon, and vehicle on rare intervals such as 60 days, 12, etc. Portraits and decorators would be major milestones, such as 150 days, 250, etc. Portraits and decorators would be the only thing available on that day.
A system such as this would allow more player choice, and give players something more they can work towards while eliminating the RNG.
- More challenges.
Adding more challenges into the game can award various different things, but most commonly it awards silver. Going with a Tier approach would be a way to add an extra level of challenges. Example: a assaulter challenge. Tier 1 Kill 500 enemies with submachine guns or assaulter weapons, Tier 2 1000, Tier 3 2500, etc. and give rewards based on the tier level.
Expanding this out to things other then the few Gold orders and silver, it can be portraits, decorators, more Gold orders, for highest tiers. Lower tiers being vehicle/weapon upgrade orders, camos, silver, etc.
- Silver rebalance.
This is a big topic, but many things are either over priced or are just a silver waste, such as Soldier perk reroll. Boosting the overall amount of silver slightly would help even free players accomplish more. This would make a lot of things more attainable, and be a big quality of life change. This is also something that could fold into more challenges, since this approach was taken in the past.
Things such as these would not only bring quality of life to the game bug add more to work towards. There are many other QOL things that can be done but these are the first to come to mind.
PTS times
These are often critical as they are testing updates, a system should be put into place that can “heatmap” various data and be collected along side player feedback to be looked at and balanced more before going into the live game. This can come in the form of 2-3 pts cycles if needed for bigger content.
Improved custom match support
Improving custom matches to allow XP and silver in a limited amount ( possible cap of 20-50k XP per day) would go a long way to helping players in custom matches but that’s not the only fix for custom matches.
-
They’re also needs to be the option for people who use the editor to have better documentation for the maps that they create, This transparency would go a long way in helping create custom matches and content.
-
ability to apply squad preset within customs. This could start as a basic feature such as allowing a player to swap a squad in or out, and changing a BR rating before the match.
Well these are not the only viable things to improve this This would be a big start.
End note: These are not everything just some things that would add positivity to the game As there is much more and probably many things I did not think of. If there was anything missed feel free to add below. I excluded maps because that’s an obvious given that we could use more of especially in the Pacific and within Rezhv, And they take a fair amount of time to create.
I also did not include stuff such as “gray zoning” because topics like that have been beat like a dead horse.
Edit: had to go back and add something for custom games, because the people that use the editor and custom games really haven’t got the support they should.
