Improve the replay system

This tool has proven to be very useful for taking pictures or recording cinematic moments, it has been one of the last best implementations that has been listed over the years that it has been alive.

However, this tool, unfortunately, is full of errors, some visual ones such as this one when using the first person view in an airplane…

Or another known error such as the lack of animation display when throwing an explosive, these and many more bugs must be corrected, since they really hinder its use to a great extent.

Additionally, I would appreciate if they added a way to use the free camera without having to observe a specific player. The only way to use this camera is by observing a player and it is really annoying, since the filters that appear when the player dies or is stunned ruin a recording or photograph, not to mention the sound effects.

It would really be great if DF would give this section a review, they really encourage people to use it, but it really has quite a few errors.

absolutely.

the replay system requires some major:

  • stability sync updates
    ( doors that are broken, yet still there. or weird animations out of sync and much more )

  • more visuals / cameras ( kinda like war thunder ones )
    ( for example, pan, tilt movements, and much else that we cannot currently do )

  • improvements on the audio levels
    you are watching someone else, yet you hear the player’s action of someone else ( presumily you if those happens to be your own replays )

  • disable annoying red filter from death when spectating

Since the free camera is still attached to a soldier, the camera attributes are also attached to that soldier as well. The free camera still receive events from the soldier when they take damage, blackout, and fire the weapons. The free camera would play the corresponding effects and sounds as if it’s still attached to the soldier.

The second camera mode the “orbit camera” have too small of a radius, the camera would clip into the vehicle 3D model. Another issue is the freelook in the replay not being true to the live game, it’s only ±90 degree laterally.

  • Free camera should only store the current coordinates of the soldier it left. The coordinates is for the free camera to return to the soldier.

  • Increase the radius of the orbit camera

  • Make freelook degree angle in the replay the same as the live match.

  • Record and correctly display when the player use the zoom while ADS, using a vehicle, weapon emplacement.
